Dramamine should work great, I use it and sleep like a rock. Make sure you don't buy the 'non drowsy' kind & make sure you take it like a half an hour in advance.

I've never really had a fear of flying, but whenever I travel I always take a good book or two with me, (usually in a sci-fi/fantasy genre), and that takes my mind away from the whole situation. Also an iPod or similar helps, usually classical music.

To Calm Yourself on Flights...

1) Always try to sit as far forward as possible (more stable feeling)

2) Try to arrive early and do not rush to get on, less excitement..

3) Try to sleep or 'pretend' to sleep during take off/landing...go to a happy place..

If seated near the rear, understand it is normal for the plane to 'move' a lot back there. If feeling anxious, it is OK to let a flight attendant know - so they can check on you, and help you feel at ease.

For what it's worth, I think it's great that you're facing your fear and getting on those flights, just remember the feeling you get when you'll arrive there to see your SO and know that you didn't let it get the better of you.

I love the smaller planes rather than the larger ones. The scenary is beautiful and there are less people on board (and the flights are generally short). Other than what was suggested, you might try a little Benadryl as well to sleep a little.
