I would wait when status changes, then call.

To provide an anecdote for why calling may still be worthwhile...

I called NVC today. NVC received my case on August 31 (NOA2 was on August 18). The status on the USCIS website was last updated on NOA2 on August 18, and it was never updated to say that the case was sent to NVC.

Hi guys, in the same position waiting for my approved case to get a case number at nvc. The uscis has not updated to say the case has been sent. I've read a lot on this site about phoning the nvc too get info. I personally still don't get what you gain from it. Yes they might tell you when something was sent or received but until you get the AOS and IV bills and are able to submit this packages you can't do anything. Go to work, go to a gym class, takes nap, go out with tour friends...this process is way too long to spend time fretting about where your case is at each moment...that's just my position.

How will u pay your AOS and IV bill without calling NVC to get your case number?I don't buy your idea. You might wanna relax and allow NVC submit your documents for you and even pay your fees for you.

It can take a while sometime. In my case it took almost as long as the time to approve my I-130 for it to be received at the NVC. Shame on California. The irony. Quick to approve but slow to send.

They never updated that it was sent.
