Hi all! Need some help here please. My wife wants to help her father get a visa to come to the U.S permanently. What steps would she have to take? She is a US citizen and her father and his fiancee' wants to come and live in the U.S. Any help would be greatly appreciated :). Her father and his fiancee' are in Laos.

K1 Visa

I-129F NOA1 : 2011-07-19

I-129F RFE(s) : 2011-11-28

RFE Reply(s) : 2011-12-13 Received my initial evidence, 2012-01-03 congressional inquiry conducted; officer is looking at the documents; says should have decision in a few weeks

NVC Received : 2012-02-03

NVC Left : 2012-02-14

Consulate Received : 2012-02-21

Packet 3 Received : 2012-02-29

Packet 3 Sent : 2012-03-19

She can petition her father but the fiancé can't be petitioned. The father could get a green card in about a year then file for a wife which would take about 2 years based on current wait. There is no fiancé visa until you are a USC.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Thank you very much for your answer. I figured it would take quite some time. I have already told my wife to get moving on this now. My father in-law understands it will take a long time to get his fiancee over to the US. Thank you again and have a splendid day/evening!!

It would likely be faster if he was married. That way he doesn't have to wait for citizenship to petition her.
