Hey all,

When applying for AP with AOS and EAD, woudl including a purpose for AP help my case, and is it even necessary? It can be used for any reason if applying after entrance with a K1 visa, correct? I've heard some people just put N/A for the purpose section and it goes through fine. The beneficiary's reason for leaving has to do with attending our wedding back in his home country.

Thanks!

You can put whatever you want. They expect you to use it for travelling home for all kinds of things and you don't have to be specific like "I'm travelling home for Christmas and then for...". It doesn't matter. They know you'll be travelling and they're cool with it. Put down what you want. :)

There is no "purpose section".

Yes there is, on the 2nd or 3rd (is there a third?) page. It asks you to fill in why you want to travel and where. You're technically also supposed to write a motivation to why you should be approved and attach it to the application as well.

No there isn't, if you follow the form. If you are talking about Part 4, the form specifically says for non-DACA Advance Parole, skip from Part 3 item 3 to Part 7, so you do not get there.

You're technically also supposed to write a motivation to why you should be approved and attach it to the application as well.

Nope. It says "see instructions", and the instructions say that AOS applicants don't need to attach anything.

Well then I did it super thoroughly then :)

Ok great--I was just skimming the form, but yes the instructions say you just need the USCIS receipt saying you applied for AOS.

That is for the Emergency Advance Parole. The regular Advance Parole you can file together with AOS (and get it for free) and for that you don't need the receipt number.

IF you file for it after filing for AOS, then you would need to include a copy of the I-485 filing receipt. It is not needed when filing concurrently.

AP is routinely approved for AOS applicants. No explanation or reason is needed when filing the I-131 with a pending I-485 as an adjustment applicant. It states this in the instructions.

An adjustment applicant does not fill out Part 4 stating a reason and purpose of their travels, and you do not need to supply the extra statement. You skip from the bottom of Page 2 to Part 7 on Page 4. You only check 'More than one trip' and leave the rest blank, like it shows in the example form here on VJ.

This is an old thread I started, but yes, that's correct. You skip to Part 7 on the form and you don't have to attach any reason for why you're applying for AP, as filing with AOS application is sufficient info.
