My fiance lives in La Habana, Cuba. In trying to prepare for the interview, among the documents he needs is copies of his Police Certificate/ public records.

Where can he get hold of these? He has asked numerous people and no one knows what he is talking about..

And exactly what documents are they expecting? Criminal record, birth certificate, evidence of previous marriages...anything else?

Do these have to be translated into English?

Thanks!

He needs to get his antecedentes penales. My husband said the place is near Linea e/ E y F near the gas station there- although I am sure there are others. He doesn't need to have them translated.

Sarah & Michel:

Thank you so much, good to know that nothing needs to be translated as that costs extra.

He has never been married so wouldn't provide a certificate of marriage/divorce, so does he need the certificado de solteria, showing that he is single?

I'm trying to get an idea of costs they don't list on any website like the medical exam, how much does that cost? Who and when does he pay (once he has made the appointment)? in CUC or USD?

Pepper44:

Yes that is the place, I found their website that has all their fees, services, and locations: cji.co.cu

reb- Yes I heard that the single certificate is still required. I know the medical cost anywhere from $400 to $420. The interview is around $265. The police report, birth certificate and other stuff I'm not sure. I asked someone else they said send 800 and your fiancé should be able to pay for all of it.

It needs to be paid in CUC but the fee they pay at the interview can be in USA dollars.

Yes the consultoria juridiaca internacional (Calle 5ta A # 405 e/ 4 y 6 Miramar, Playa) is the place. He can get his criminal record, his certificate of being single, his birth certificate, and translations of all of the above. Documents will cost 50-100 CUCs. Allow at least 2 weeks. The medical exam is 400 CUCs, but sometimes you have to pay a little extra to get it quicker.

The consultaria juridica is where you go to "legalize" your documents in CUC, but this is a total waste of money. The Cubans will tell you you have to do this- and pay more in CUC, but when we went to the interview, the US Interests Section did not care at all if the documents were "legalized." The birth certificate and certificate of "solteria" are issued by the registro civil and you pay in moneda nacional. The antecedentes penales (criminal record) are issued by the other place I said and are also paid in moneda nacional. Nothing needs to be paid in CUC except for the medical exam.

This may seem like a silly question, but for anyone that has already done the interview, if we are both present, do they conduct it in English or Spanish or both?

Also, once the visa has been approved/packet has been picked up and it's time to book a flight to the US for your Cuban love, did you buy the ticket in cash in Cuba (from Havanatur?), or could someone buy the ticket from the US for them (is that even possible)?

Any idea how much that one-way ticket is approximately? I've only bought round-trips for me so not sure if it's about half of that or the same price?

I'm so anxious, we still haven't received our NOA2 and our NOA1 is dated Feb 19, 2015, definitely past the 6 month mark. I hope it did not get lost or overlooked in the shuffle :/

Many thanks to all for their info :)

They conduct the interview in both-- they will interview you both separately and then speak to you together. They will speak in whatever language you are most comfortable with. They interview my husband in Spanish and me in English.

As for the flight, once they have the visa in hand, they can buy their ticket from Havanatur. A OW ticket to Miami costs about $350-- this can only be paid in Havana.

If your application is outside the normal processing times, you can put in a service request and/or have your senator's/congressperson's office make an inquiry on your behalf.

Good luck!

Has anyone who has a fiance in Cuba gotten the police records (antecedentes penales) at the Registro de Antecedented Penales in Vedado?

This is cheaper than getting them at the Consultoria Juridica, but they are not "legalized".

Has anyone had success at the interview using these "non legalized" ones, or know if the Embassy will accept these?

Thanks so much, our interview is finally soon!! It's been over a year of waiting so having everything right is crucial :)

I would highly suggest against this. Just for the fact you are dealing with CUBA, you want to make sure you have ALL and I mean ALL your ducks in a row.

I would just pay the fee for the certified ones. I did it and the police report is only 30cuc in Havana.

The consulate officers at the embassy even though they are American are STRICT for this country and no not give any type of leeway.
