Hi VJ!

We are anxiously awaiting our NOA2 and trying to plan the next year or so of our lives.

We have a few questions related to the visa:

1) it is good for 6 months, correct? Is it possible to get an extension of needed?

2) can the beneficiary still come to the U.S. On his tourist visa after the k-1 is issued?

It's possible he has to stay in Dubai a little longer than we planned, and we don't know how to make sure we aren't jeopardizing our long term together by causing any complications with the visa. That being said, we certainly can't go 6 months without seeing one another either.

Thanks!

Hi VJ!

The petition approval is good for four months, but you can extend it up to a year by contacting the embassy (pre-interview)

The visa is good for six months from the date of medical.....only good for one time entry into the U.S. (no extending this)

2) can the beneficiary still come to the U.S. On his tourist visa after the k-1 is issued?

Tourist visa is automatically canceled once approved for the visa..note visa approval, not the petition approval.

If the petition had been approved but he did not yet interview for his K-1 visa he will still have his visitor visa but there's a chance he might get turned back at the airport because he has a petition in work all depends on if he can prove to border patrol he is going to return home....no one can guarentee anything thing.

It's possible he has to stay in Dubai a little longer than we planned, and we don't know how to make sure we aren't jeopardizing our long term together by causing any complications with the visa. That being said, we certainly can't go 6 months without seeing one another either.

Once the embassy gets the petition tell them you need an extension and like stated above they can pause the process so to speak for up to a year.

Thanks!

Since your NOA2 may come sometime in August or September, you may have only a month before the embassy is ready for you. Each embassy has it's own time frame to get an interview scheduled. Check your embassy's reviews on here and see if anyone says how long it took them to schedule and other procedures. Some embassies send packet 3, require you to send 3.5 when you have everything, then send packet 4 with the appointment date. So that could give you another month or so. Or not.

If you need more time than that, I suggest sending them an email and asking to delay the interview if they tend to schedule interviews rather quickly. You can see by my timeline, our embassy takes 6-8 weeks to schedule the interview. Those are some things that may add time to your goal date. You might also be able to schedule the medical exam closer to the interview date, and that can add a short delay to the issuance of the visa too.

AP?

you must to make sure of it because every case could be different. Check your visa! As far as I know, it can't be extended.

2) can the beneficiary still come to the U.S. On his tourist visa after the k-1 is issued?

B1/B2 visa will be revoked after an K1 is issued. Correct me if I'm wrong

It's possible he has to stay in Dubai a little longer than we planned, and we don't know how to make sure we aren't jeopardizing our long term together by causing any complications with the visa. That being said, we certainly can't go 6 months without seeing one another either.

1. Visa cannot be extended at all, but you can delay the interview thus slowing the process waay down.

2. Correct.

Thanks everyone! It's the Embassy in Abu Dhabi, so we will look closer at the options there. I guess I can always go to visit him instead of him coming here all the time while we wait (easy for him to hop on a cheap flight here whenever he has a few days off, but harder/ more expensive for me to get there).

I didn't know that his tourist visa will be cancelled once he gets the K1. Does it impact the work visa he has as well (he works for Emirates)?

We already had a bit of trouble at the airport when he was here for a visit a month ago. He said they really didn't seem to believe that he was going to go home. Hopefully the fact that he's gone back every time he's been here for the past two years will help us avoid too much skepticism, but who knows.

Thanks again for the help!
