Intro - K1 begins

Hello VJ! After reading some of the posts here I realized I'd probably need a place to vent & ask questions. My check for K1 was just cashed so the journey begins. I see people who have submitted 180-300 pages of documents. We took the opposite route. Considering the bar set by many government agencies, we decided KISS. I-129F & needed package documents like G-325, copy of passport in whole from her last visit in October (B2 tourist visa), letters of intent to marry.

Now I'm nervous that perhaps we've underwhelmed the inspectors. Any experience to be shared would be appreciated. She is from Colombia. It's been about 3 years & this past October did it for me. I know she's the one!

Petitioners dealing with U.S. consulates in third-world countries (like everywhere in Latin & South America) typically add some evidence of their bona fide relationship to the I-129F petition package (a process that we call "front-loading"). USCIS doesn't care about this extra material but will pass it to the consulate upon petition approval. There, the consul will review the material before the visa interview and form a distinct mental picture of whether to grant or refuse the visa.

One can't count on the review or even acceptance of material brought to the visa interview.

You have a long time to wait. Nevertheless, allocate the funds and time now to be on the premises during the eventual visa interview, whenever that will actually be. If you're not allowed into the actual interview, you can hand your U.S. passport to your fiancee to show to the consul. This will score major points.

Thanks. I was told by a CBP buddy I served with that showing up with my fiance is the biggest thing with the interview. That & the stamps in the passport and the pictures we have together for showing legitimacy. Waiting will be the hardest part.

Hopefully this will not be too taxing. USCIS cashed my check today but I received no SMS or email confirmation. Maybe I'm expecting too much too soon?

Hi there,

Did you attach the e-notification form G-1145 to the front of your application? This is the form that usually puts you on the email/sms list. If you did not, or they somehow managed to overlook it, you can check your status online once you are sent a copy of your NOA1 with your USCIS number, on their website.
