hi... I received my work authorization since 18th of June. Applied for SSN on 22nd of June, up till this moment I havn't seen the sociAl security card. I went to the office to request for the number but they told me homeland security is yet to verify my credentials. is this normal? I have heard people say they collected their SSN before the actual card. I wonder why my case is different

sorry, it takes time to get the verification done, and the verification is absolutely required based on your type of adjustment.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

I went to SSA office just today with my EAD, lady told me to wait 4 weeks for my SSN, because they need time to verify my documents. She also told me to call them after 4 weeks if I don't receive it by then.

I have old ssn that she told me I can still use, until I receive new card. I started working this week, so I was scared that it might mess things up, but she told me I should be fine. I just don't know why it takes so much time, I thought that it will be 2 weeks max.

if you had applied prior during your 90 day window as a K-1 visa holder, in visa name,

you would have had the card sooner.

Can you recall, what prevented you from going in to a SSA office with a printout of the electronic I-94 record?

I did get my ssn 3 weeks after I came to US, but it was on my maiden name. I went back to ssa office to change my name to married, to have it match my EAD.

ah -- got it.

sorry, your name change will take time, needs DHS verification. It's not enough to show the EAD card to the clerk at the SSA office. I wish there was some automation about it, for real time checking.
