Folks... let's take a step back and think about this for a minute... the barcode updates as you type in your information into the form. So its purpose is to store your information so that when your application is received, it can be scanned and the NOA can be sent out as quickly as possible. However, the N400 can also be filled out by hand, which means that the barcode at the bottom of the page will contain no personal information at all in some cases. So if handwritten applications are acceptable, then there's no way that the barcode is required. A missing barcode will probably just slow down processing by a few days because the eligibility information will have to be checked manually before an NOA is sent out. My only concerns would be:

-if the barcode didn't print out, then perhaps other parts of the application weren't printed either. Best thing to do would be to take a full copy of the application to the interview just in case anything was left off.

-was the right version used? The older N400 had no barcode.

Library is also a good option, I filled out my forms there... Cheaper than Fedex, considering you need to print out 21 pages...

My windows laptop is soooo slow and outdated that I would rather go to FedEx and rent their computer to print the forms. I just hope that i can finally see the 2D barcode when i use their computer.

I have a Mac but I couldn't find a reliable source to install the latest version of IE. So I guess everybody in this group used the one with 2D barcode, right?

If you have other suggestions, I'm all ears. :-) Thanks a lot again!

I am glad you had it figured out. The main issue is often with the version of the N-400 form. However, the new version of Adobe is equally important as some will not support editing or filling out the form on the computer or even so the 2D coding. The coding is just to make processing of information faster for USCIS officers. If you fill your form manually (by hand) then you may expect a few days delay in receiving your notification.

Finally, everyone is advised to have a copy of whatever is submitted towards their filling.

I am glad I did too. :) I have scanned everything I sent. I did not do it when I filled out for AOS. Thankfully everything went well there. I think I am going to be okay, and like you and someone else said here, the coding is used to make the processing of information faster. I was able to fill out my application on my own computer. The only thing that it would not let me do, was to fill in the A# on each page. It would only let me do it on the first page. I had to fill in manually on all the other pages.

Ok, good. Actually it's a good thing that you dibble checked on your A# and did manually what wasn't done automatically. Because each page is required to have an A# for the purpose of identification (I mean, if missing, it can easily be traced back to the source as the A# is unique for every individual).

For educative purpose, the recent N-400 form automatically inputs the A# once you type it unto the first page. A more recent Adobe also supports that.

I have been trying to use the USCIS case tracker but my case# from the NOA isn't pulling anything up. Anyone else have this problem?

CR1 / CR2 Visa:

(Day 1) 12/16/11: I-130 Application sent

(Day 283) 09/24/12: Interview at US Consulate – Approved!

(Day 287) 09/28/12: Visa Received & Immediately entered US using Visa

(Day 290) 10/01/12: Social Security Card sent automatically

Removal of Conditions CR1 / CR2
(Day 1) 07/28/14: Application sent.
(Day 135) 12/10/14: ROC Approved!
(Day 143) 12/18/14: 10 year GC received (IR1 / IR2)

Naturalization:
(Day 1) 06/30/15: Application sent.
(Day 210) 01/26/16: Interview and Oath Ceremony. DONE!

***Son and I became US Citizens 01/26/16***

(Day 1) 01/27/16: Applied for my U.S. Passport
(Day 14) 02/10/16: Passport Book & Cert of Naturalization received

(Day 1) 03/16/16: Applied for U.S. Passport for son

(Day 22) 04/07/16: Passport book and original docs received...(Card rec'd 04/16/16)

N-600 for child age 9
(Day 1) 01/27/16: Application sent

(Day 12) 02/08/16: NOA received

(Day 23) 02/19/16: Case received at local office

(Day 88) 04/23/16: In line for oath scheduling *Called USCIS to inquire about why there is an oath required for a child under 14. They sent a service request to the field office.

(Day 95) 04/30/16: Received letter from field office to say no oath necessary and that they would mail the certificate.
(Day 106) 05/11/16: Cert of Citizenship received by registered mail (they never sent tracking. case status was never updated either)
