After Montreal Interview

Hey folks,

Just wondering about something.....

Is it possible to ask at the Consulate during (before?) the interview if we can stay in Montreal a few extra days and pick up our passports at the Consulate, rather than having them couriered?

We have *a lot* going on at the end of July, when they gave us an interview date for, including a trip to the US for about 10 days the first week of August (annual trip).... I'm concerned with the timing of going to the interview on the 24th and potentially not having the passports back in time before we leave :P What happens then, they get shipped back to Montreal??

Trying to come up with so many "what if's" .......

Commenting mainly because I'm wondering the same thing. Have my interview June 25th, and would like to be out of Canada on July 12th...I'm reading too many horror stories on the postal service taking forever lol. We basically have all of July planned in Michigan with his family, so I'm really hoping everything goes according to plan.

I will hopefully get my visa same day as interview or next day (wishful thinking.. lol)

That's because I am part of the exception who live in US on non-immigrant visa.

But yes, you should be able to request or ask questions after they told you it's approved. If I were in your position, I would still choose courier delivery, since they are a lot more reliable than regular mail carriers.

Right now people are waiting a month or more for their visas. You can ask but i suggest cancelling any plans until visa is in hand.

DHL returns the visas, not Canada post which is why you sign up on a special website to have them returned. (Where the K1 pick their interview.) You cannot pick them up from the consulate. In sofar as I've seen one person allowed to do that since Ive been a member of VJ.

It could suddenly change and everyone might get visas the next day, but based on current circumstances, that seems unlikely.

yeah.... seeing some of the hiccups in the group of people with May interviews - most got them back right away, some a week or two later......

Once we get confirmation that Montreal has our files, I'm going to ask for an earlier interview date **fingers crossed** if that doesn't pan out, I will ask if we can stay and pick them up - try for puppy dog eyes..... worst they could do is say no ;) but it never hurts to ask......

Agreed - the worst they can say is NO, as NLR mentioned, not many exceptions are ever made. There are dozens people in the same position hoping the same thing and Montreal would get screwed if they started making special concessions.
