Hi guys,

So I entered the USA from Canada on a K-1 visa in November, got married in January and just received my EAD/AP combo card yesterday.

I already had a job offer on the table from a company here in New York and am moving forward with it. They want me to start training on May 18th (in 10 days).

I want to go see my mom and grandmother (who is not doing very well) in Canada for a week before starting my new job but I am a bit uneasy about all the warnings on my AP card about possibly not being able to re-enter. I was never here unlawfully but it would screw up my entire life if I wasn't allowed back in. Anyone has experiences or insight to share, either positive or negative about re-entering on AP?

I'm super stressed about it. I would go alone because my husband cannot take time off from work and would be going by car and re-entering at a land border.

Thanks in advance!!!

no worries at all. even if you have unlawful presence, that is rarely an issue. Besides, if you go through the land borders, they often times just wave you through.

Like I said on another post, the only thing you have to do is bring your marriage certificate, NOA2 for AOS and AP. Some immigration officers are not familiar with the combo card yet so keep those documents with you. I traveled using the AP/combo card 2 months ago. I know that its scary that your future depends on the immigration officers discretion. But there really is no reason why you cant be allowed back in.

Marriage certificate is only required if the name on the passport and EAD/AP differ.
