Hey guys had any problems using your SSN to verify your identity?

I don't have my EAD (yet) but I have a SSN since January, I never had any problem being found in the system.

While employers cannot e-verify me, when I volunteered they managed to complete my background check.

Hey, this is my first post in this section, but here's my deal:

May 18th priority date for I-130, I-485, I-765 (didn't file AP as I was advised against it because at the time I didn't have a "good enough reason").

Got my receipts about 2 weeks later, probably less. Went in for successful biometrics appointment June 9th (probably the ONLY efficient thing about the Seattle field office). Radio silence for about a month. Mid July I'm wondering what's going on with my work auth. I'm getting job interviews and while employees seem fine with the waiting for my EAD, no ones calling me back! FYI: I live in a US/Canada border town and there is a distinct displeasure for Canucks here.

I call the 1-800# mid July and start with my OCD antics. I probably called them about 5-6 times a day for about a week. They must have been irritated because they suggested I expedite my EAD when I explained that I'm in a catch-22: no one will give an undocumented worker a job offer and cross their fingers, so I can't argue for a valid expedite reason because I don't have a work auth. The stars aligned and someone must speak logic over there because the same day they submitted my expedite request was the same day they approved my EAD. That was July 27th, so I suggest to anyone still waiting: call them like it's your full time job (heck it's not like you have a job lol), eventually someone will just want to get you off the phone and process your stuff.

I received my work auth card on August 10th and promptly applied for SSN (bring your birth certificate and passport!).

Backtrack a bit: on July 7th my case was updated to: ready to schedule interview for I-485. Since then, nothing else has been updated. I call regularly about this one too, but it's still within the "regular" processing time and Seattle is way backed up. By my calculations, I won't get my interview till at least January 2016. I did put in a service request however, so maybe that'll speed things up.

So because I was being overly cautious, I didn't file my I-131 with my I-785 (bad move) and as I'm still looking for work, I'm entertaining the idea of working in Canada (where employees are actually entertaining hiring me) and just doing the cross-border commute (short commute for me plus I'll be under Canadian employment law and be eligible for maternity leave, which is far superior to US mat leave). Sooooo I filed I-131 September 2nd and requested EXPEDITE and have heard nothing! For the past 4 days I've been calling USCIS, probably spoke to about 25 different people. They just kept saying it wasn't in their system. I emailed lockbox, I'm in touch with my congress, I made an infopass, ect. Finally today I get a text, they've rec'vd my I-131 and have mailed the receipts.

My situation now is that I had a medical issue come up and have made an appointment to see my doctor in Canada. I basically need to just visit Canada for the day to get checked out, see what's going on. Im not insured in the US and my clinic in Canada is absolutely free, no insurance required. I'm going to attempt to walk into the Seattle office next week and request an emergency AP while my other one is pending. Anyone have any luck with that?

You have to bring proof of your emergency in writing, such as a doctor's note. I read your other post and though I get why you are wanting to

go to your clinic in CA, you still need something to proof your emergency AP from your doctor.

There is a good chance to get an immediate approval when you do a walk-in if they agree to see you and if your proof is solid,

certainly worth a try but as always no guarantees.

My wife has been receiving a couple credit card offers each week, which surprised me after reading about the difficulty people have in building up credit here. She was unable to open a separate bank account too (due to no credit score), but she was just approved for an unsecured Capital One CC, with a limit of $3,000. God bless the USA and its weird credit system!

Yes, offers come flooding in after a while we are waiting for those offers to come in. Does she have a job yet ?

Hubby was able to open a bank account with 0 credit but is still job hunting.

She has a 30-day temp job. Her employer hinted they'd like to hire permanently, but I am transferring to a new job in California, so unfortunately she'll have to start her search again after this assignment.

What bank was your husband able to open an account with? A local/regional bank or a big/national one? My wife just tried a couple local ones, but that was before she received her EAD. At least we were able to add her to my account.

We bank with REGIONS.

Sounds good. Sadly I could only try for a secured card :/

I was approved for 2 unsecured Capital One credit cards ($300 limit each). Also did a secured $500 limit one with PNC bank. I have a Chase bank account even when I had no SSN. They recently added my SSN to the account.

They open accounts with just 2 forms of ID And proof of address (I used my phone bill). At the time I used my passport and my visa page in my passport. I closed my BOA & TD Bank and only using Chase now.

TD Bank is one of the banks my wife was denied. Said they didn't have enough info yet to allow her to open an account. That was before she got her EAD though. Now that she has two forms of ID, maybe it wouldn't be a problem.

I got the ead tracking number 4 days after the card was delivered. Have you checked the usps website?

Sorry, I meant to say USPS not UPS.

We had to call to get the tracking number, it never came but no updates for anything. EAD card was received Aug 31.

I mean USPS is saying something is being shipped with a tracking number.

Sorry I can't help if it's coming from your service center then it would show online with the place it was sent from . Who knows might be a green card ;) but I've not heard of them just sending out a GC without an update

Quick update for u guys. My wife passed her drivers permit test yesterday on her first try yay! DMV was able to issue her a new ID with her name change. Didn't need marriage certificate we brought her ead card and that was good for them. Now just preparing our paperwork for our AOS in October for the interview!
