Hey everyone! Just wondering how long it took for everyones SSN to come in the mail once you entered at port of entry? I checked off the box in my application at the beginning of all of this, and I remember it saying about 3 weeks, just wondering--and hoping-- if its possible to get it way faster than that?

I went in to get my drivers license and they need the SSN first. blah. Any info would be great!

Many do NOT get the SSN..even though they checked off the box! They say after 10 business days, no SSN. Head to ur local office...BUT ur best to download and fill out the form prior to going to the office http://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/ so when they say no card has been issued and u need to fill out the form..u simply hand it over already completed

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I got it within 2 weeks. 13 days to be exact.

USCIS

January 8th 2014 - NOA1

July 10th 2014 - NOA2

NVC

July 17th 2014 - Case shipped to NVC

July 30th 2014 - Case received by NVC

August 13th 2014 - Case number and IIN received by email

August 13th 2014 - DS-261 Form Completed

August 14th 2014 - AOS Fees Invoiced and Paid

September 17th 2014 - IV Fees Invoiced and Paid

September 19th 2014 - DS260 Completed

October 6th 2014 - AOS and IV Packages Received

November 28th 2014 - AOS and IV Checklist (4 items in total. 3 for documents they lost. Called on December 9 and a rep said no checklist for IV....go figure)

December 8th 2014 - Checklist scan date.

December 30th 2014 - Case Compl........NOT. So after not having an interview date yet, I called again on Jan 30th and apparently its in final review with a supervisor.

February 6th 2015 - Case Complete: Supervisor called from NVC to confirm everything has been completed now.

March 27 2015 - Interview Date

March 27 2015 - Approved!

I got mine... can't remember exactly but you can look at my signature... which will pop up after I hit POST... and then I can look at it, too lol

But many people check off that box and do not get it. They have to go to the SS office to apply in person. It just depends on the person who processed your paperwork after POE and whether they bothered to complete that bit for you.

09/10/2014 - IV documents mailed (with AOS cover)
