At what age do you think its appropriate to have the "Birds and Bees" discussion with your kids? I remember asking my mom about it when I was 11, lol she got mad and sent me to my room.

i think it depends on the comprehension level and maturity level of the youngster in question

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I think it should be given in small digestible chunks. Body parts as they become aware that others aren't the same 'down there'. "Where do babies come from?" generally comes fairly early, as in preschool. They aren't quite up for "Well, the Daddy inserts his #######...." at that age. "The Daddy puts a seed in the Mommy that grows into a baby in her tummy." My eldest recently asked what a period is. So I told her, that kind of naturally led to a fairly basic explanation of sex. Her reaction was something every mother wants to hear. "Well I hope you don't want grandkids Mom, cause I'm NEVER doing that! GROSS!!!!"

I figure we'll hit birth control, STD's, and what sex does to you emotionally when needed. By 'when needed' I mean when puberty rears it's ugly head all the way.

I was 8. I remember watching the news with my mom and they mentioned condoms. I asked her what condoms were, and that's how it all began. She made me say "#######" 10 times without laughing. I guess that was the test to see if I could handle the mature discussion. :P

Of course, the next day I went to school and told my friends everything she told me so I could have company in my disgust.

I've had the "talk" with my sons already, they're 9 and 10. I felt it was time since they were coming home telling me wild stuff that kids at school told them. They use proper words for male and female privates. They like the word *#######* just a little too much. When I told them that they were not born out of my belly but out of my ####### they about flipped. Also, they didn't take the fact that they were breast fed too well.

I never got the talk from my parents. We had videos in 5th and 6th grade that explained it all....with very bad 70s actors.
