Right now we are paying $1040 for a 1 bedroom/ 1 bathroom appartment in NJ... Water and Heat included...I doubt that our apartment is any bigger than 500 sq feet...

I dont think it is in a good condition and i cant wait to get the hell out of here...

Anybody from NJ knows where to look for a decent priced (-$1300/month, possibly gated community) apartment in Central or Northern NJ????

Your apartment looks suspiciously familiar to mine... We're looking forward to moving too, our lease is up next month. Looking forward to giving my arsehole landlady the finger after all the hassles she's given us, along with the occasional cockroach I've seen running about inside.

Still considering we had 3 days to find an apartment when we first flew out here, we could have done a whole lot worse.

We're moving one town over, renting the second floor of a house that's been converted into upstairs & downstairs apartments. We'll be paying $1200 for a large 2-bedroom, which will come (weirdly enough) with a home cinema and a Jaccuzzi in the bathroom.

our lease will be up the 31st of may.. trust me i cant wait... we have squirls dancing in the attic (we live on the third floor)... somehow they made their way through the roof in summer and ever since then nobody cared to enough too fix the roof...

Damn I wish we would find a apartment like that! Right now im looking into apartments in (gated) comunities... they seem to be in very good condition and they are only about $1,350... which is not bad considering we pay $1040 right now for our shitty place...

Why is Washington DC not on that list?

• because it is not a state per-se?
  
• because the metro area extends into two states?
  

Certainly, I've seen apartments in those ranges in DC-city, Alexandria and Arlington.

The picture you included of your kitchen looks a lot like the one of a "temporary" 1 BR apartment (July-October 2004--even that was way too much time there) which I rented near downtown Balto for $465/mo; it was an absolutely horrible place (part of a converted rowhouse) with gross area maybe 400 ft², badly warped floors.

I wouldnt even complain if they'd charge us $465/ month... we pay $1040 for our apartment for a crapy place like that...

Have you looked at Apartment Guide and Apartments For Rent? Those are excellent sites for apartment-finding.

I dont think gated comunity was the right word for it... I think its rather a apartment complex with comunity facilities like gym/pool/clubhouse etc...

La Mer at Parlin? Go check it out if you want. I hope you don't have kids because the school district there sucks. And there are some shady neighborhoods in close proximity to it like in Perth Amboy. Same goes for Sayreville/Spotswood.

Check out South or East Brunswick. Stay away from New Brunswick or the parts of North Brunswick that are close to New Brunswick. Check out Franklin, Piscataway, the parts of Edison near the train station. If inclined to go near Bridgewater/Branchburg, I recommend that area as well. Stay away from New Brunswick, the Amboys, the Plainfields.

That's off the top of my head.

Ok I just saw the two new links you posted. Woodbridge is nice but extremely congested. Do you drive to work or take the train? If you drive, that is going to be a nightmare.

Your second link is New Brunswick. NB is ghetto, they are revitalizing the downtown and the complex you are looking at is nice but it is still surrounded by ghetto. You don't wanna live there.

I should add... traffic will be bad pretty mcuh anywhere in Middlesex county but the Edison/Woodbridge area is specially bad.

Thanks seems like we have to keep looking around...right now we are living in nutley (5 minutes from newark).

We are looking for a place not more than a 30 minute drive from elizabeth (thats where my husbands is working at).

Don't have no kids yet. We are both 21...

We only need an apartment until sept. 2008 after that we will be heading to florida.
