Hi everyone.

My fiancé was approved for his K1 in Islamabad in December.

After that, he was put in a brief AP in January. Most recently, his case creation date on CEAC was updated to a new date in early Feb., and the status was changed from immigrant to nonimmigrant and said ready.

Several days passed, and when I emailed the embassy for an update, I got an email that said:

As per our available record this visa case is under (possible) final processing. Therefore, as soon as the aforesaid process is concluded, we will dispatch applicants passport/visa including visa packet via our approved courier service.

NVC also said everything looks fine and we just needed to wait for the visa.

I checked today and the status is updated to today's date and says "Refused, refer to any instructions/document you got at the interview."

I can't believe my eyes--I am in shock. Then interview was very smooth and we weren't given any instruction other than to wait for the visa. Every time I have inquired in the last 2 months, I've been told everything looks clear.

My heart is in my throat today and I don't know what to do. I called NVC and they said the case still shows as in process on their end. I don't know what to think.

Anyone here experience anything similar? I would really appreciate any support/input, please.

Have you checked the document had been given to your fiance?

I am just curious, how come NVC involved to this process after the approved petition sent to the US embassy? As per my knowledge, NVC has nothing to do after they assigned a case number to the applicant. It might be changed now.

The only docs he was given after the interview were abt marital rights in the USA, etc. Basically informative pamphlets.

You are right, NVC is basically hands-off once the embassy has the file, but they are able to monitor the status and see if and when the visa is issued. My embassy doesn't reply much to email so I use the NVC for updates.

I just don't know what to do/think.

1. it is supportive generally. I would recommend holding back on the snark, it makes people less inclined to assist. I would also recommend posting a little more info in your subject heading beyond, "Please, please help." If you titled that "Islamabad embassy confusion" or something like that, you'd probably get more useful feedback.

2. You might want to post something on the South Asia forum (http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/91-asia-south/). Maybe other people familiar with the Islamabad embassy can give you more feedback.

3. It doesn't sound like your fiancee has gotten his passport back yet, so I wouldn't jump to conclusions yet. Wrong information pops up on the USCIS and NVC websites on occasion.
