I officially crossed the boarder and am living in the States as of last week.

When I crossed, they stamped my passport and said I have one year minus a day. . . . for what?

I know I have to prove we are still married in two years, but what is this one year minus a day thing??

The endorsement in your passport [stamped visa] is good for 1 year, during which time you need to pay the $165 fee and have your greencard produced. There is nothing to worry. Until you get your actual greencard, and within one year, you can travel internationally and re-enter the US on your passport, with the endorsed visa alone. There is nothing the matter.

That stamp on your passport is called I-551 annotation It is good for one year. It allows you to travel and re-enter US. If you already paid the immigrant fee, USCIS will produce your green card and mail it to your US residence address. You will see expiry date (2 years) on green card once you receive it. If you haven't paid the immigrant fee yet, you should do it now in order to receive your 2-year conditional green card (if you have been married for less than 2 years at the time of US entry). http://www.uscis.gov/forms/uscis-immigrant-fee

Also, you should apply I-751 to remove conditions during the 90 days before the card expires.
