USCIS-130 processing and Citizenship processing

I have seen different topics about I-130.

Back ground Informations:

I have been a permanent citizen for almost 5 years now. I have my citizenship processing with USCIS and have interview scheduled for beginning of March. I am expecting to have my oath and everything by beginning of April.

I applied for I-130 (spouse of permanent residence) for my spouse who is currently in India. The timeline for USCIS is about 5 months. I filed in mid october so expecting to get approval by mid March.

Whats Next?

When do I file with NVC for my spouse after my naturalization oath or right after USCIS I-130 approval?

Spouse does not have SSN and do I file taxes for 2014 single or married but filed separately?

What is the income needed for sponsoring? The currently poverty line seems like 20, 000.

How long the NVC processing takes? I have read about others mentioned timelines about 30-60 days. Is 30-60 days the time to appear in interview in India or just the NVC processing here?

Is there any thing I can start doing now like making documents ready that will help her to come here sooner.

Thanks for suggestions and replies

Take a read through this link, it will help answer a lot of questions: http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/NVC_Process

Here is NVC's website, which offers lots of information and a visual flowchart of links to see how things progress there: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/approved/contact.html

When USCIS approves your I-130, they mail your case to NVC. Currently NVC is pretty bogged down and no one seems to get through there fast anymore. It can take up to 42 days just to get a case number with them. Once you have a case number you can start paying fees, etc.

There are lots of documents you can start gathering to stay on top of things. Read over the wiki a few times.

I have been using the app for a while. It just shows the overall process. My question is when I have my naturalization done, Do I have to send the naturalization certificate to NVC to make it current?

To me your situation looks like that you have to send naturalization certificate which will make your petition current. Even though USCIS approved your petition as a permanent residence, your case will be in NVC until the cut off date as of beneficiary country per visa bulletin. I would recomend you to send your Naturalization Certificate to NVC , ONCE YOU HAVE IT AND START CALLING. NVC is slow but you can bug them. My husband case was here in 45 days after USCIS I-130 approval. I used to call them everyday.

Hi all! I am a permanent residence going through Naturalization. My Spouse I-130 is approved last week.

Do my spouse petition start to be processed by National Visa Center after we send them my Naturalization Certificate? I received the USCIS mail of i-130 approval yesterday.

How long does it take for NVC to schedule interview for my spouse in India?
Is there any way we can expediate the process?
Thanks in advance.

Once you become US citizen, make a copy of your naturaization certificate and send it to NVC. USCIS no longer focuses on your approved I-130 after it was sent to NVC. Now you have to call NVC everytime to make sure it is in process to allow them to proceed letting you choose agent (you or spouse or lawyer), then issuing you AOS fees and IV fees. There is no expedite unless your request is emergency request.

How long does it take for NVC to schedule interview? You can look at the spreadsheet in the NVC flier thread and NVC interview thread.

Like spouse waiting visa said, I would also recommend you to send a copy of Naturalization certificate and copy of I-797(approval from USCIS) TO NVC and start calling them when you would be able to start processing and AOS.

Thanks Spousewaitingvisa and Ashleyslots for the information. I will send NVC the naturalization certificate and go from there. It seems like a never ending process in this broken immigration system.

You have to wait for them to get the case and assign a case number first. Also send them a photocopy, not the original.

Do NVC assigns case number without the case being current? So far I am understanding from Ciroc80 is he filed for petition in Permanent residence status. NVC is supposed to hold the case until the cutoff date with visa Bulletin.

They need the case before they can do anything... i may be wrong about the needing a case number however. I'm not sure as it's not an issue I've had to deal with.
