HELP!! I scheduled my visa interview last week and I just found out that February 19 is a holiday because of Chinese New Year, however, my visa interview is confirmed.

Should I reschedule my interview?? I dont want to reschedule as much as possible because I'm saving it for emergency purposes and I dont want to pay another $265 to reschedule.

Also, can someone provide me a number where I can call the US Embassy? I've been trying to call them but its just the operator telling me info about Non-immigrant visa and stuff.

USEM is open on Feb 19. They do not close for Chinese New Year.

You wouldn't have been able to schedule on that date if it were a holiday.

When in doubt about the embassy holiday schedule there is a link in the guide to the embassy holidays.

Technically your visa is a non-immigrant visa that gets you admitted temporarily to the US for 90 days to get married. You then apply for an immigrant visa (a green card) after the marriage takes place.

Some parts of the system call it what it is, a non immigrant visa, while others incorrectly refer to it as an immigrant visa. So be prepared for loose use of terminology here, and don't assume you are being directed wrongly because you are being sent to a non-immigrant phone line or office.

Our CEAC K1 header changed to Nonimmigrant after the USEM interview and after our status changed to AP. I suspect we K1 folk are bundled into the immigrants up until then so it's cleaner to require the medical exams before getting the visa. As opposed to bundling us into other nonimmigrants that don't require medical, such as tourists.
