Am I the only one finding it impossible to get through to the NVC? All last week it was busy no matter what time of day I called. First thing in the morning, late at night, all busy. And now this week I am able to get through, but after going through the automated menu I end up at the message saying the NVC is closed. But this is during normal operating hours. This is my third week trying to get in touch with them and I have yet to be successful.

I am not sure if their office is in New York but they are definitely on the East Coast. East Coast has been hit with a pretty bad storm, so government offices and schools have been closed until further notice. You are better off calling next week on Monday.

I wondered if the storm may have had something to do with it. That still doesn't explain the two weeks prior, when I was calling at least 10 times an hour from 7am to midnight without success. When I finally do get through it will feel like I've won the lottery. Trying to remain patient, but everyone here understands how difficult that can be...

Except for their closure due to the storm, what you describe is normal. You just have to keep trying and be patient. I am not sure if their new automated system is much of an improvement because the sheer volume of calls they receive would bog down most systems. When I was going through NVC redial was my best friend. All you can do is keep trying. I hear that the best times to call are 7AM and 11PM their time. I had my best luck between 11 AM and 12 noon. Their office is in New Hampshire.

They're going to get slammed with calls tonight. Maybe they'll be low on staff as well. It'll be interesting to see what, if any, lucky people have tonight and for the remainder of the week.

I am getting through but, after the 2 minutes of dual language messages, still says '... the NVC is closeed. Please call back on the next business day...'

I usually had to call 20-30 times to get through, and then waited on hold for 60-90 minutes before talking to someone. Hang in there and keep trying!

As soon as you hear the busy tone, hang up and redial. And keep doing it over and over. 10, 20, 30 or more times. Eventually you get through to be put on hold. Wait, wait and wait some more. Finally a live person will answer.
