first visit back to Canada after becoming permanent resident

So I am going home to visit family for a month in Canada! I have booked my ticket in my maiden name as that is what is in my Canadian passport. I am wondering if anyone has had any issues. My resident card is in my married name. I'm thinking I will bring my marriage certificate as well as any documents I received at my interview. Any thoughts?

Just came back from England on Saturday after getting my EAD/AP card in November. Went for 6 week and flew back to Philly I did take a copy of my marriage cert and my 1.485, but the marriage cert wasn't asked for. I went for secondary interview only because my green card hasn't been issued yet. I travelled in my maiden name and I really didn't have any problems at all. In fact border security said I didnt have to come through the visitors queue and to next time to go through the US one. They were very nice and friendly towards me. So I don't think you should worry about it unnecessarily.

Time to reset the tick tock clock again.   Roll my eyes.

N400.  Application:      02/28/2018       

Biometrics:                    02/22/2018

 

Waiting............    Roll my eyes again :(

 

USA citizen as of 25th of July 2018. :)

You'll be fine - many of us have done it and brought the marriage cert as proof of your name change. Going back through Us Customs you hand over your GC and they may or may not even ask for your Canadian Passport. Coming into Canada you hand over your Canadian passport and the Cdn guys may or may not ask what your status is in the US and may -slight chance- ask to see your GC as proof.

I made the mistake of giving the CBP my passport first then my green card after I asked if he wanted it because of the questions he was asking. LOL So when you come back hand over that green card first on the way back! :) But you can give your Canadian passport when you head over. I have a NEXUS card so it's supposed to make it easier.

Present your green card on the way back in to America. Put your passport aside unless they ask to see it for some reason but they shouldn't.

OK great! That is good to know. So on my way to Canada use Canadian passport and yell them I am visiting family. On way back home to US give my green card even though my ticket is in married name and green card in married. I will be sure to bring Marriage certificate if asked for.

So excited!

I'm laughing because you have a typo that says 'yell' instead of 'tell' and I'm just picturing myself yelling at the officer at the border telling him I'm Canadian next time I cross!

When crossing into Canada, you should be showing your passport and PR card.

If you haven't been asked for your PR card, one day you will be.

Just makes it easier.

When crossing into Canada, you should be showing your passport and PR card.

If you haven't been asked for your PR card, one day you will be.

Just makes it easier.

Your Canadian passport is good enough to get u into Canada...not going to refuse u entry as a Cdn citizen into Canada

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Yeah, I realize that.

But I've been asked about my US status by Canadian customs officers, which lead me to handing over my PR card.

Now, I just hand over both.

8/2/2021:  Mailed N-400

8/4/2021: N-400 received

8/6/2021:  Biometrics to be reused
3/15/2022:  Interview (successful)
