Can my fiance just show up at her interview in Manila with an additional joint sponsor in the form of an I-134 with all the required docs, and see if they will consider it on the spot? Does that cause a delay or problems?

Sure she can. Make sure the i134 has the original signatures of the petitioner and joint sponsor. Just keep in mind that using a joint sponsor for K1 in Manila is often frowned upon by the consul. Is the JS a close kin (parent or sibling) of the petitioner?

I do not think it will cause problems but as mention before. The Philippines do not usually allow joint sponsor for K-1 visa

The joint sponsor would be my sister. So can my Philippino k1 fiance just bring along my sisters I-134 form as a joint sponsor and hand it to the interviewer, without prior notification? Is that how it works?

Can I, as the petitioner, attend the embassy interview with my k1 fiance in Manila? Or do I have to wait outside? The case numbers were assigned Jan 14. When will the interview be? Do they notify the fiance by phone, email, courier? Thanks much. My attorney would charge $60 to answer these questions, so I appreciate your help if you know the answer from actual experience. Thanks!

I don't know what "prior notification" you're talking about. She brings the i134 to the interview along with her other documents. That's it.

As I previously said, USEM Manila doesn't favor joint sponsors for K1 so your case is hanging on a balance. Good luck.

OK, so a joint sponsor is not favorable. Can anything be done to make it more favorable? Is it a policy, or just a trend? Does the overall financial strength of the JS make a difference? Thanks again for your patience!

Along with the co-sponsor I-134 they need to provide their most recent tax return and W-2, same as the sponsor. Do know that the embassy is not known for readily accepting a co-sponsor with the K-1 visa.

Yes the petitioner can attend the interview, no problem with that. The beneficiary sets up her own interview appointment.

What you need to do is some serious reading... follow the flashing arrow below and start reading. No charge.

no it is case by case as far as joint sponsor. but most people on here believe they do not except joint sponsor for K-1 which is almost true. that is how rare and hard it is to get a joint sponsor for that. If you succeed you should post on here and let others know that are asking about joint sponsor for K-1 in the philippines Edited by j&ana

My financial situation is legitimate and good but not on paper.

I was self-employed in 2013 and 2014 with low income because I lived on saved funds. I had a sad but amicable divorce during that time. So I look weak on paper with too low of self employed income in 2013 and 2014.

I just started (Jan 5, 2015) a normal, w2 pay stub income with an airline. High security, background check, etc. It is a permanent job. So, if they can understand how I switched from self employment to becoming a pay stub employee, then I should be OK. But I am worried they might say I have only been in my new pay stub job for 2 months. Really, it should not matter how long I have this job, but some people think differently.

So I thought a strong joint sponsor, my sister, might help the interviewer give the thumbs up. I also have a great resume, history, references and all that, but I guess that doesn't count in this case. You think?

Is my new job with adequate income going to be sufficient?

Posted (edited)

Yes as long as you got proof you are working that job. An Employment vertification letter would be good also with the pay stubs. You should be ok .you will have better luck with that, then you will have trying to be approve with a joint sponsor for the K-1 visa. you will not need your resume ,you are not interviewing for a job, but of course being engage or being married could be consider as one. Relax you will be ok with the evidence

Thanks much for your answer and patience. I believe you hit the nail on the head. I will go with that.

One more question. I asked this earlier. Is it really true that I can attend my fiance's US Embassy interview with her in Manila?

That might give me an opportunity to answer income questions, if any. But I guess the best strategy is to be quiet and say nothing unless absolutely needed?

I think you can, but that is up to the embassy. I am pretty sure the embassy in Manila allows it.

yes, but for K-1 visa the I-134 is require first at the interview. After the petition and beneficiary are in the USA ,they will have to get married and do adjustment of status (AOS). Then they will need the I-864 affidavit of support (AOS)

For an IR/CR-1 spousal visa. Only the I-864 is needed at the NVC as there will be no adjustment of status later
