I have sponsored my parents and their case is at NVC. My concern is that my father overstayed in the past long ago ie about 25 years ago. actually he applied for political asylum after expiry of his i 94 which was denied and at the same time he was issued showcause notice in removal proceedings and a hearing date was fixed before an immigration judge. Much before the hearing date my father requested for voluntary departure which was granted to him. later he was refused tourist visa on this ground. I am much worried. will this over stay and denial of his non immigrant visa have any affect on his immigrant visa. Experienced vj member please share your knowledge in this regard. If yes then what should I do?

He would need a lifetime ban for it to be am issue, does not sound like he has one.

Being denied a tourist visa per se should not affect whether or not an immigrant visa is granted. Tourist visa's are usually denied under the presumption that a tourist will not return home.
