Loss of Canadian Citizenship When Getting US Citizenship

I am a Canadian citizen and have been living in the US for 5 years with my wife who is an American. I am in the process of applying for my US citizenship. The oath of citizenship requires me to "renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen." I have a friend who is Canadian who became an American many years ago, and at that time the Canadian government did not recognize this renouncing and holds him as a dual citizen. Does anybody know if this is still the case or if my Canadian citizenship will be invalid once I take the oath?

Yep, still the case. Canada doesn't mind dual citizenship. Some countries do, so the oath you take becoming a US citizen may cancel your citizenship to that country, but Canada isn't one of them. To stop becoming a Canadian citizen in your scenario you need to explicitly go to Canada and request it to be revoked. There is an official process to go through to revoke your Canadian citizenship.

As an aside, you can google Ted Cruz citizenship. He had to engage with lawyers to have his citizenship revoked in the past year or so.

Ditto to what ExPatty said. I think Cruz had to actually pay a fee as well.
