AOS Not Yet Submitted but wants to work as Freelance

Recommended Posts

I arrived in the US with a K1 Visa last August and got married in the same month. However, we have not submitted my AOS application by this time. I already have an SSN that has a note "Valid for work only with DHS Authorization" and I wish to accept some freelance projects that I can do. I am always asked to provide my SSN in getting these projects and I fear that I might not be allowed to work since I have not submitted AOS application yet.

Does anybody know what this DHS note mean on my SSN card? Do you think I can accept freelance projects? If you know of links where I can get more information about this please post it in your comments. Thank you very much!

Thank you very much for your responses!

Moreover, am I currently considered an illegal alien since we have not submitted our AOS application nor EAD? Am I at risk to be deported any time?

It means you cannot work till you get either your EAD or GC. No card No work!

As long you earn $$$, you need EAD, I believe it has something to do with Tax. You earn money, you pay tax. That's how it goes.

EAD will change ur SSN from NOT valid to work - Valid to work.
