Temporary Health Care?

My fiance will need health insurance when he gets here and I'm on my mother's insurance, so I can't add him to mine. He will probably find a job with decent benefits once he gets his EAD, but is what should we do in the meantime?

Is there any temporary health insurance that we can purchase? Or is it better to sign up with the exchange and cancel it when he finds a job?

Also- anyone who's been through this- how soon do you sign up? There seems to be a gray area of when someone is considered a resident.

There are travelers health care.

There's plenty of temporary insurance and also there is the marketplace. Be sure that your mother double checks her insurance that you're still allowed on it being married etc...

Depending on the cost, we might just wait too. I worry travelers insurance won't be valid since they can argue it since he's definitely not just visiting.

I tried to go on the marketplace for a cost estimate, but it won't give me one..argh! I can be on my mother's insurance til I am 26, even if I'm married. So that's good. I'll have to look into temporary insurance but I have a sneaking suspicion that it's going to be pricey.

Yes that what happens to us.... We have too many expenses. So I decided to wait, even my husband looked at some but it was too pricey for us to afford, and I had the same feeling about the travelers insurance. since I can't drive or work or do anything by myself I'm at home mostly of the time I don't think any accident would happen to me where I have to go to the hospital. Just let know your husband to be careful with the stairs hahaah :) and once he has EAD I'm sure a job will have something to offer

Haha I will tell him to be careful! I do have some money set aside if I need to take him to the doctor. I think that's sufficient until he gets a job. So many little logistical things to think about! I can't wait til he has his green card and we can move on from this :P We're not even halfway there! Lol
