My family is moving from Panama to the USA. My wife is the only immigrant and our plan was to have my mother who is single be the sponsor. Our problem is that on my mother's 1040ez her SS income is not listed. Only her adjusted gross income is on her tax documents. She doesn't qualify as a sponsor a with only the adjusted gross income but with her SS she would. What should we do?

Is the SS income taxable? If so, she could backfile. If not,a letter as to why it was not listed should suffice.

SS is not taxable and that's why it didn't show up in the adjusted gross income as it was deducted from the total. We did some investigating and apparently we can attach a letter and evidence supporting the the income.

SS income is acceptable provided she can prove it. SS disability income is not acceptable.
