Gallup: Dems plunge to record low

By Lucy McCalmont

11/12/14 6:17 AM EST

Favorability for the Democrats has hit a record low as things go from bad to worse for the party after significant midterm losses, according to a new poll.

Only 36 percent had a favorable view of the Democratic party, a 6-percentage-point drop from before the midterms, the Gallup poll released Wednesday found. With the GOP standing with 42 percent favorability, it is the first time since 2011 the GOP has had a higher rating than the Democrats.

The favorability rating for Democrats is the party’s lowest since Gallup began asking the question in 1992.

“After the 2012 election, many political analysts focused on the GOP’s ‘image problem’,” the polling firm said. “Now, it is the Democrats who appear to have the more battered image. Their favorability rating has never been lower, and they are reeling from defeats that cost them control of the U.S. Senate and strengthened the Republican House majority to levels likely not seen in 90 years.

“On the other hand, the American public does not admire Republicans more, their numerous election victories notwithstanding,” Gallup continued. “Neither party can say it is making significant progress in improving its image among the U.S. population, but undoubtedly the 2014 elections augmented the GOP’s ability to shape the agenda in Washington and in state capitals across the country.”

The Gallup poll was conducted Nov. 6-9 and surveyed a random sample of 828 adults. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

I disagree. They interviewed 828 persons and that seems to be a fairly representative number considering there are only roughly 300,000,000 of us... You do the math...

If I was you, lib, I'd hold off on reading the last rites for the Democratic party. The pendulum will swing back as it always does.

I don't question the poll at all. They do these on representative samples. We all know, however, that favorability ratings vacillate. They always have and they always will. Let Republicans get busy trying to yank health insurance from 10 million people who have it now but didn't have it before the ACA. Let them pass legislation that will kick young people off their parent's insurance policies. Let them pass legislation that will accelerate health care inflation once again. Let them do that - and they're poised to - and the favorability ratings will not look that swell for them anymore.

I was being facetious. I don't believe for a second that 828 person in this country are representative of the majority... In any case, if you are not happy with the topography of American politics, all you need do it wait two more years...

In other news, research has revealed a growing level of dissatisfaction amongst dwarves.

In recent polling, 6 out of 7 dwarves said they weren't Happy.

Now that's polling you can trust. ;)
