US citizen applying visit visa for mother in law .... info needed.

Hello every one

I am planning to apply for a visit visa for my mother in law. I have no clue on how to start the process. I am getting mixed info from various people reg whether to send the form i 134 or not.

can some one please guide me on the complete process about how should i start the process and where to file the forms and other things.

any help will be appreciated.

You cannot apply for a tourist / B-2 tourist visa for your mother-in-law; she would need to apply herself and would be approved or denied on her own merits; you would have no involvement in the process.

Hypnos is correct.

The potential tourist must apply for the visa, and show strong ties to home/ reasons they will return home.

A invitation letter or I-134 has little to no effect, unless the mother is coming for a specific purpose (your graduation, wedding or some such).

Start on the consulate web site were she will interview. There are instructions. The B-2 application is electronic and you can fill it out on her behalf. Just tick the box that asks if you were assisted in completing this form and put your name and how your related. Send an electronic copy to your mother and law so she can review. After the application is electronically submitted an interview date can be scheduled online. When I did this for my wife in Vietnam the process from start to visa in hand was 2 weeks.
