WASHINGTON — The Army has dropped the term "Negro" from a policy document that called the word an acceptable alternative to "Black" or "African American."

The term appeared in a lengthy document called Army Command Policy, covering personnel standards and policies. A section on equal opportunity policy defined "Black" or "African American" as "a person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa," adding that "terms such as 'Haitian' or 'Negro' can be used" also.

The Army issued a statement saying it removed the term "Negro" Thursday as soon as it realized it was in the document. It did not say when the term first appeared in the document, but it apparently was many years ago.

The Army offered an apology to anyone who was offended.

So, what should they be called? All the work to write the race-baiting piece, but no explanation as to what human beings with various skin colors should be called.

Americans if they are Americans. Thuh!!

Aww, c'mon Janelle. What good is it to a society that plugs their ears to the words and thinking of ALL people? There is no standard of words today, but the damned word police live everywhere.

I don't use words publicly that are offensive to others. That's just me. I would like to be a model citizen and a good neighbor.

Today, there is a growing group on the left who are offended by just about anything. If we teach our children not to offend these folks you can bet they will grow up as neurotic and mind dependent people who are afraid to speak or stand on any value of importance. Everyone can tell when another is deliberately trying to offend or hurt them. People who have thin skin and get offended by words need to be sent back to the schools of sticks and stones.

That'd be awesome if everyone would do that.

Agreed!

Being afraid to speak and stand up for what is right and intentionally trying to offend people by using derogatory words are two separate things.

I think you were intentionally trying to offend people.

It's so damned easy for just about anyone to be offended these days that their time would be better spent growing thicker skin and standing strong. If you want to teach your children to be word police, then that's what they will be. A better path is to learn how to stand on principle and ignore the BS word attacks we all hear in a days life.

Sorry, I'm an American. Not a Negro. And it's about time they made the change.
