Proof of Marriage to submit with AOS packet

Hi all!

My husband and I (man it feels good to type that! ) just received our marriage certificate. We decided to go with a civil ceremony to save money and then do a bigger wedding this summer when we've recovered somewhat from all these immigration and moving expenses.

We've filled our all the forms for the AOS packet, but I am not sure how much evidence we have to prove we are joyfully married other than pictures of the civil ceremony,the marriage certficate and maybe our joined lease? What else should I include?

This isn't like the initial steps of the K1 right? Do we need a bucket load of proof to show we're married? thanks all!

Your marriage certificate alone would likely be more than enough with a copy of your I-94. At this point you're just proving you got married in the 90 day window. The bigger proof of a valid marriage will come at your Removal of Conditions application. Its never too early to begin saving up proof of commingling of finances, trips together, photos, for the ROC application.

You can submit whatever evidence you have. They are aware that recently married persons who came in on a K1, won't have much evidence if any at all. That is why they give a 2 year conditional GC and you have to do ROC.

Once you get the SSN and EAD/AP you can start getting joint accounts/bills, property, etc. You accumulate this evidence and whatever you have up to point of the AOS interview if you get one, you can show. Then you accumulate more evidence to show for the ROC later on.

The crucial thing is that you get legally married within the 90 days and of course submit that proof with the AOS. Good luck.

In addition to the good advice above: Wills, medical powers of attorney, HIPAA releases, and similar documents are excellent evidence for ROC later. Even more important, they're crucial for your overall lives.
