Hi folks,

I’m in the process of filing for my wife’s AOS and have submitted all of the necessary initial paperwork. My question is about a “request for initial evidence i-485” I received in response to that.

They asked for two things - proof of employment/income, which is fine and easy to get, as well as “a complete federal income tax return submitted to the IRS for the most recent tax year”.

In the packet, I already included 3 years of W-2 records, which I had to call an 800 line for and wait an hour on the phone/two weeks to get. Since I wasn't sure what they are asking for, I called the 800 help line from the latest letter I received. The person I spoke with told me “we don’t answer questions”, and to either contact a lawyer or make an appointment at the local office, but the office has no appointments available for the next two months and I don’t have the money for a lawyer.

Being that I already sent in tax info from the last 3 years, what exactly are they asking for? Specifically what I sent are a copy of my W-2s, which are 1-2 pages in length each, which is what the IRS mailed to me.

I've attached a screenshot of the letter...thanks in advance for anyone that might be able to advise :)

Moving to AOS From Family-based Visas forum.

You need to send a complete set of your federal tax return that you submitted to the IRS (not just the W-2), or get a tax transcript.

Yep, W2 alone are not enough.

I was able to log into the site provided (thanks Pinkrlion!) and print out the necessary forms.

For anyone who may have a similar question and stumble across this thread, I have some advice about the IRS website - don't use anything other than Internet Explorer to browse it or it will glitch out, and NO support is available from the IRS w/ login/site issues (as far as I could see anyway)

I tried both Safari & Chrome on a Mac, then Chrome on a PC and each time it gave me error messages at some point.

What finally worked was using Internet Explorer version 11 on a windows 7 PC. I had to create a new account, then enter the password from the confirmation email. After, I was able to log into the site and print out the required docs.

This thread can be closed...thanks again to those that helped!
