I want to know once my husband comes to U.S. How long will it take to apply for visa to visit Switzerland, We want to take our honeymoon there.

Either Switzerland or Italy.

How long will he have to be residence here before applying?

He can apply now, no need to wait until he comes to the US.

Your husband will come to usa with a immigrant visa stamped on his passport with a duration of a year. The purpose of this visa is so that after point of entry you have plenty of time to get his social security card, green card and etc. this stamped visa on passport is as good as having the plastic green card because as others said, either way until he becomes a citizen he will be travelling on his passport from native country and the plastic or stamped visa (whichever is valid). So make your plans as you may wish. But if it was me, I would probably still take few more months and get the plastic card with me and travel outside, but that's me. You should be all good.
