**For the Canadian Portal thread**

As I work through my packing to get ready for my defection to the US of A, I am already pining for things I know I can't get down there! LOL

I just stocked up on Tetley tea, then decided to search Canadian groceries and thought I'd share this link if anyone was interested.

Their product and shipping costs are half way decent, especially for those of us who won't be living near the border.

Anyway, it made me happy to find this site and I've got it bookmarked for later on!!

Thank you Sylea. Great website! Sometimes you just need to have ketchup chips or Diana marinade! I'm definitely putting this website in my favorites!

The more I visit my fiancé in the USA, grocery shop and cook, the more I realize how many habits i will have to change to my cooking. Last time I was visiting my future father in law and making dinner I asked if he had soy sauce, he said of course. I'm not sure what it was but it screwed up my meal for sure lol! It was sooo sweet! I think one of the main differences between us and our neighbors from the south is our taste buds. I'll have to revisit my cooking and try out lots of U.S. products to make food. Thank god I won't be working for the first few months! lol

Met in 2010 on a forum for a mutual interest. Became friends.
2011: Realized we needed to evaluate our status as friends when we realized we were talking about raising children together.

2011/2012: Decided we were a couple sometime in, but no possibility of being together due to being same sex couple.

June 26, 2013: DOMA overturned. American married couples ALL have the same federal rights at last! We can be a family!

June-September, 2013: Discussion about being together begins.

November 13, 2013: Meet in person to see if this could work. It's perfect. We plan to elope to Boston, MA.

March 13, 2014 Married!

May 9, 2014: Petition mailed to USCIS

May 12, 2014: NOA1.
October 27, 2014: NOA2. (5 months, 2 weeks, 1 day after NOA1)
October 31, 2014: USCIS ships file to NVC (five days after NOA2) Happy Halloween for us!

November 18, 2014: NVC receives our case (22 days after NOA2)

December 17, 2014: NVC generates case number (50 days after NOA2)

December 19, 2014: Receive AOS bill, DS-261. Submit DS-261 (52 days after NOA2)

December 20, 2014: Pay AOS Fee

January 7, 2015: Receive, pay IV Fee

January 10, 2015: Complete DS-260

January 11, 2015: Send AOS package and Civil Documents
March 23, 2015: Case Complete at NVC. (70 days from when they received docs to CC)

May 6, 2015: Interview at Montréal APPROVED!

May 11, 2015: Visa in hand! One year less one day from NOA1.

I have been finding that many things in the US are sweeter than Canada... Like Bread... Now soya sauce!

My fiance tells me that everything tastes saltier here. :)

I just returned from a trip and discovered, Corn Pops are different!

Another goo dplace to try is amazon. Sometimes the shipping is nuts, but just about any Canadian Food I have wanted I could find on there.

If you look around can find Cdn Smarties...and ketchup chips!! I try to plan my trips back to Canada around Roll up the rim to win,lol..When we lived in DC..I drove over 4 hrs to a Tim Hortons in West Virginia..had my coffee and then drove back,lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

LOL 4 hour drive for coffee that's crazy!! There's a Tim's in West Virginia!?!? Is it in Charleston? My future father in law just bought a house there and I was there last July but did not see one. And does it taste the same as back home? I really like their bagels.

I would have to go look on the tim hortons website...Wife was away...so dog and I got in the car and off we went.....It was a long day as hit a lot of traffic on the way back,lol Coffee was good........I did not like the Timmys in Newport, didnt taste at all like Tim hortons---probably more of a cream issue.

You can order tim hortons online - no need to drive. You can even get the same exact coffee maker they use if you're addicted enough.

I'm hoping since Burger King bought them, they'll be expanded further south. Dunkin Donuts makes the worst donut I've ever had.

I luckily live in a Canadian border town and hubby is only 2 hours away.... I go to a lot of SCA events throughout Michigan/Ohio area and will bring Canadian Goodies for my US friends. They go NUTS over Canadian Oreos and Coca-Cola!!

Biggest reason - we use sugar, they use high fructose corn syrup :P

If you are ever going across the Ambassador Bridge, stop at the duty free in Canada and look for Courier de Bois Maple Whiskey. Trust me!! I do NOT like whiskey, but this stuff is freaking amazing!! My American friends will now ask me if I am bringing the Cdn Water ;) LOL

08-03-2017 Daughter and I completed biometrics; May 2018 - I had to redo my biometrics (reason unknown)

07-13-2018 I-551 extension stamp (12 mths) obtained at USCIS office in Detroit

09-20-2018 Transferred to TSC

10-15-2018 Text notification "New Card Being Produced"   YAY!!
