H4 Visa to F1 to OPT (working in EAD) - Travel outside US?

Hello There -

I am on OPT with a valid EAD (til June 2015) currently working. Prior to this I was on H4 visa converted to F1 visa. However, I don't have a F1 visa stamp on my passport. I only have a H4 visa stamp (till June 2016). That said, I'm planning to go on a cruise to a neighboring island (Bahamas) for 2 days. I would like to know if I will have issues during reentry to the US at Port of Entry? I have a I20, Passport, EAD card and job offer letter.

You need a valid visa to enter.

Even though you have an H4 stamp that has not expired, you are not in H4 status anymore so you cannot request to be admitted with that stamp, it's no longer valid.

The problem is, you couldn't get an F-1 stamp now because you're no longer a student per se. Your best bet is probably to sit tight and not leave the country until your status changes to something else where you can get a visa stamp.
