Section 11 question 15 States:

Were you ever a member of, or did you ever serve in, help, or otherwise participate in, any of the following groups:

Military unit?

...

I assume I will have to check YES there since I did compulsory military service in Sweden?

Question 17

Were you ever a part of any group, or did you ever help any group, unit, or organization that used a weapon agains any person, or threatened to do so?

Again, having served in the military. This would have to be answered YES?

Question 19

Did you ever receive any military, paramilitary or weapons training.

Again YES? Do I need to provide proof/explain my answers, or are tehy aware of my military background since I had to provide documentation of it for my CR1 visa? While I am at it I may as well ask how you guys answered section 11 question 9.

Have you ever been a mamber of, involved in, or in any way associated with, any organization, association, fund, foundation, party, club, society, or similar group in the United States or any other location in the world?

I assume I should list all Orchestras I have been a member of, all student organizations, highschool clubs etc?

hi

I will have my interview beginning of October. I did compulsory service too in another country. I did answered question 15 part A yes and question 19 yes.

I didn't send an explanation with my N-400. when they send the yellow letter they didn't requested anything regarding this BUT when I was looking at old documents one of the document I sent to grant the initial visa to the national visa center DS-230 have the same question and at time they requested detailed information and I provide them with signed statement about my military background. they were ok and it didn't cause me any problems.

so I assume that the IO will review and see that I stated that before. I doubt it will cause any problems.

I think the answer to all of those is yes... it's pretty clear except for Question 17... that's the one I'm not sure about. If you were deployed in a conflict zone then perhaps the answer is yes, but I can see the possibility of being in the military and having weapons training but not having served in such a situation where the use of a weapon or the threat to use a weapon was necessary.

Yeah, I'm not sure about 17. Perhaps answering yes to the other questions makes it clear I was in the military. Question 17 is probably referring to illegal groups...

Actually came across this question today and was up in the air about it also, to me I feel the question reads to those involved in gang activity otherwise I feel they would state Military along side organization etc like all the other military questions.

That is how we interpreted it.

We answered 'no' to question 17.

We answered 'yes' to questions 14C, 14D, 15A, and 19 with the explanation "I was deployed in conflict zones while serving as a private in the British Army from 19xx-19xx (military records attached)."

My husband had no issues at his interview.
