Well that's great then! I wonder how they get around that without jailbreaking them? I have seen many web sites selling unlocking software, that was no more than repackaging of what the jailbreakers create. $109 seems a touch steep, but I might look into this when we travel over seas. Normally I just jailbreak it, then restore it to original afterwards. After having a few issues with jailbreaking making the iPhone unstable and crashing the phone until I could connect to a computer and restore it, I've preferred keeping to original software.

Yup. I agree, 109 is steep. When I did my iPhone 5, I paid the amount that they requested which was 39.99 back in the day. I gave them the phone's IMEI number. 24 hours later I received an email from their team saying

'If you are receiving this email, then that means your IMEI has successfully been added to the "factory unlocked" database for your carrier!

For the unlock to be "pushed" to your device, please back up your data in iTunes then perform a firmware restore by clicking "Restore iPhone", as the unlock is pushed through during the re-activation process. For more advanced users, you can use computer-side tools like redns0w or device-side tools like SAM to de-activate your device, then just plug into iTunes to re-activate (and unlock!) without requiring a restore!

If you have an iPhone 4S or iPhone 5, a restore should not be required, you should be able to now pop in any international SIM card and it will work with no further steps needed!

Enjoy your new factory unlocked iPhone!'

But ’tis a common proof
That lowliness is young ambition’s ladder,
Whereto the climber upward turns his face.
But when he once attains the upmost round,
He then unto the ladder turns his back,
Looks in the clouds, scorning the base degrees
By which he did ascend.

Sounds like the process when you unlock direct with AT&T. Although they don't mention not being having to do a restore to unlock the phone with 4S and the 5. I've unlocked numerous iPhones that met the contract requirement with AT&T, in fact I just unlocked my 4S through them. If will be heading over to my sister in-law when my new phone arrives. But rednsOw is a jail breaking tool  If you can use that, why bother to pay someone? I am curious how they can get the unlocks set up with the carrier. Wonder if they pay a fee to the carriers?

I pre-ordered on September 12th, and still no sign of them. But then they did say at the time delivery was pushed out until Nov 9th to the 27th. But on previous iPhone orders on release, they had long lead times but actually came much sooner. I expected the same this time, but apparently its not going to happen.
