Hello everyone :star:

So I called and received case number from NVC for our K1 visa petition. Our case is going to be assigned to the US Consulate in Bombay/Mumbai, India. It is currently at NVC. While we are waiting for some correspondence from NVC, we were thinking about obtaining a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC).

Here's my question: Will the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) in Ahmedabad, India, grant him a PCC just based on our NOA2 or do we have to wait for a letter from NVC? He obtained his passport back in 2007 and it has a validity of 4 years, I think.

Any insight is much appreciated.

I hope you have a blessed day and a blessed weekend! :)

*** Country-specific thread moved from K-1 Process forum to the India regional subforum. ***

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

NVC does not send any letter stating that they need the PCC. If you send the documents minus the PCC, then they will send you a checklist for PCC. But that will delay the process. So, it is better to apply for a PCC right now. I have read about the PCC problems in Ahmedabad. But your husband can take the printout of the NVC documents requirements which will also have the PCC listed in the requirement and provide that at the PSK.

And if they still disagree (I don't think they will) then you have no other option than waiting for checklist. I think someone from Ahmedabad will have better suggestion. But I think you should give it a try anyway. It may save time.

And do keep us posted. :)

This maybe just one such case, but I'd like to share with you my friend's case in getting a PCC from Ahmedabad. They did not give him a PCC or entertain him until he got the letter from the NVC. But you may try using the NOA2. It maybe a person to person issue.

Thank you for this info! That's what we were planning to do that take the checklist and also the copy of NOA2 to get the PCC because I've heard nightmares about it being obtained from Ahmedabad -_- Hopefully my fiance won't run into any problems.

On the bright side our petition is in transit to the US Consulate in Bombay/Mumbai

Yeah, I've heard it takes the most time in Gujarat. Other states are easier to get PCC. That's nice to hear your petition is in transit! :D When are you planning on scheduling the interview?

Phew! I'm getting butterflies in my tummy already. Well not sure yet about the interview date but planning the wedding almost in the end of November. So maybe some time before that. Hopefully everything will go smooth in GOD's will. ?

As per reciprocity agreement between India and US, Police have not much role. Every one to approach passport seva kendra in their area and if no change in address for beneficiary, thne PCC will be issued on the spot by Passport Seva kendra.

Well my fiance did approach but they asked him get an appointment online. Which we don't mind because that's actually convenient for us. NVC has mailed me a letter with his info so we are waiting on that. Hopefully we'll receive it soon and he can go get his PCC.
