Engagement rings.... do you still have the same one?

Just wondering how many people still have the same engagement rings their honey's gave them originally when they proposed. Have you upgraded over the years?

Yep. Don't intend or expect to upgrade - I love it and we did choose it together.

I dont want to upgrade.. but, my husband wants to have our rings upgraded.

I love rings..but, in my currently at work I cant wear rings.. coz it can cause my fingers to get caught in the plane or something..

Is this because of sentimental value to the original engagement ring, or financial reasons?

I would upgrade, but what I have now will always hold special memories and be of more sentimental value than a new one.

Sentimental reasons. It isn't a very expensive ring according to how engagement rings go but it is unique and hand made by a jeweller in my home town. We went out on my birthday the month after we became engaged to buy a necklace or ring as a birthday present. We hadn't intended on getting an engagement ring but we both saw this ring and admired it. So, at his urging I tried it on and loved how it looked. I had never wanted a diamond before and we were looking at other gems, but we both felt that this was 'the ring'. He bought it for me and the only time it has been off my finger is when it was being re-sized. I loved it then and I love it still. I would never get another. This is 'the ring'.

Hmm... I don't have an engagement ring, and don't particularly want one... but if I did have one, I certainly wouldn't 'upgrade' it. To me, that makes no more sense than 'upgrading' a wedding dress to a more expensive one a few years after the wedding!

Marlon was quick to tell me that the ring he proposed to me with is not my "official" engagement ring as he intends on getting me a nicer one. The ring he got me is one I always wanted, an Irish Claggaugh (sp?) ring that's made of silver. He bought it in England before he went back to Jamaica. When I get the new ring, I will still wear this one on my right hand as it is a token of everything!

I like my ring, and won't "upgrade" it. My husband tells me that he wishes he had gotten a different, bigger ring, but I'm completely satisfied with what I have. My right hand is curiously naked though.....

I was satisfied with my gold wedding band but my husband surprised me with a beautiful diamond ring for my last birthday....I love it.

I will always cherish my band for sentimental reasons.

Upgrading doesn't make sense for me. This is the ring he gave me when he proposed. If he wants to buy me another ring, cool, but it ain't replacing this one, I tell ya.

In Brazil we don't do the diamond ring tradition, we instead buy the gold bands and put it in the right hand, and on the marriage day we switch them to the left. So yeah, we still have the same rings, custom made with 18K gold from my family. Btw, in Brazil we usually make gold jewelery with 18K gold as opposed to the usual 24K in US.
