We are still waiting for everything but while on the subject of a driver's license I had a question. My husband has his social security number and card already but it is the one that has he is not allowed to work stamped on it. After he receives his EAD (if ever, grrrrrr) will he have to wait to go apply for his DL until after he receives his new social security card or will the one he has work? This is for Michigan.

His Social Security card should say "Valid for work only with DHS authorization". You can use this same card to apply for a DL because that statement on his social security card will remain even when he has his EAD card. This statment on the social security card will remain until he has his green card on hand and reports the green card to the Social Security office.

called the USCIS yesterday for an inquiry for the EAD, since we are well out of the 90 day processing time. They sent me a letter today explaining that I am still in the 90 day processing time because they start counting the 90 days from the start of them receiving the RFE response, which is dated Nov 19th for us. It's really lame that an RFE starts the whole wait over again.

I did this on the 6th. We also received the email saying we were within the processing times (Nov 7th is our RFE Response date)...I thought it was just a waste of time but we just received the email/text alerts saying our case was updated. I'm not positive but I believe calling helped someone pick up my case and start working on it again! Keep your head up! I know how frustrating it can be but there is light at the end of the tunnel!

Hey Katy! Congrats on getting your EAD approved! :) I'm glad to read that cause I know you've been waiting a while. There's no difference between the 2 messages. It happens that USCIS sends several messages saying the same thing. You should get another message when your card will be mailed.

Yes it means your EAD is approved! It should be mailed sometimes next week. Sorry you had to wait so long! Any update on your I-485? I'm not working yet but I should start soon. I'm still waiting to get my driver license. I took the written test and I'm waiting to book the driving test now. Hope it will be next week!
