Hi everyone!

I recently got married to my husband. We are now looking into immigration. Originally we were going to have me immigrate to the UK, but I was offered my dream job in the USA. As he has to work at least another year we are now going to go through immigration for the USA. I just have a couple of questions!

1. As I am moving, do I need to provide proof of accommodation suitable for two, or can I save money and live in a shared house until he arrives and then we can find a place together?

2.How many months do I have to be working at my job to file the 1-864 on my own without a joint sponsor? I will be making way above the financial requirement but I spent a year abroad and traveling after college.

Thank you! I have been scouring visajourney.com and you guys have already been so helpful without realizing it!

1) We will be living with family at first when we finally get the visa. I don't see why were you live would be a problem during the process, or even when he arrived as long as the household income can support the intending immigrant.

2) To my knowledge and research, you should write down your current annual income (Whatever you are making at the time you file the I-864.) If your 2013 tax return is insufficient to show support without a Joint Sponsor and your current annual income raises any questions that you are concerned about, it might not hurt to have a Joint Sponsor lined up just in case.

Thanks for your quick response! Household income only means the income from me and my husband correct? Not roommates or anything of that nature?

Awesome! I believe that my dad or brother will be more than willing to be a joint sponsor, I just wanted to make sure. Thank you!!

Household income is going to be you and anyone you have financial responsibility with in the same houset. If you lived in shared housing, it would be anyone over the age of 15 who bring income into the home. If you live with family, and you intend to live there with your husband, you can ask them to also include their household income on the I-864 http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-864.pdf Part 6 - Line 6 a.

We did not use any household members, but we used a Joint Sponsor. That is how you would go about it though, if i'm incorrect, Someone will surely correct me :D

http://www.investopedia.com/terms/h/household_income.asp

The combined gross income of all the members of a household who are 15 years old and older. Individuals do not have to be related in any way to be considered members of the same household. Alternatively, household income is the combined income of all members of a household who jointly apply for credit. Household income is an important risk measure used by lenders for underwriting loans.

Sorry for being a pest, but I just want to clarify.

If I do not need to have a joint sponsor(earning above the financial requirement), but am living in a shared accommodation for the time being, I need to be able to prove that I earn enough money to provide for all individuals in the house that are above 15 and earn an income? Or is that just for being able to qualify as a sponsor?

All of this is so confusing already and I am just beginning! Oh well! The best things in life aren't super easy right? (L)

No, your Current Individual Annual Income needs to reflect your current job and pay or your 2013 tax return.

If you want to add household members to support your income to reduce the chances of having to have a joint sponsor, you can do that on Part 6 - Line 6 a. and beyond and enter the total household income. For example, if your current individual income is less than the 125% poverty level required to support a family of 2, and you are living in a shared house with FOUR other people and the TOTAL COMBINED income is greater than $34,887, which is the 125% level for a FIVE person household (The four residents + your husband equals 5) then that will also show financial support.

No no, you do NOT include roommates in your household count, and you cannot piggy back on their income.

Your household is based on your taxes and a few other things, and does not include roommates. Your household will be 2, you plus your immigrant husband. You will need to make enough for 2 people according to the I-864P poverty guidelines.

If you are starting your job now, then by the time you get to the part where you need to show your income, you will have been working long enough. Current income is what counts.

You don't need to provide "proof of accommodation suitable for two" either. You could live in a one-room coldwater flat for all they care, really.

The only reason I ask that is because if you look at the Spousal Visa for the UK, they demand to see suitable layouts, household occupants, room sizes, etc etc.

Thanks again!
