HELP--DS 11 for CRBA Error in Completing the form ELECTRONICALLY

Hello VJ family...

Need help with DS 11, it keeps on giving wrong dates in filling in the form on its official site, even if you corrected it, wrong dates keep popping out.I don't want to print it out with error dates on it ..

In the checklist it says that " YOU MUST COMPLETE THE FORM ELECTRONICALLY AND PRINT IT OUT"

Does anyone encountered these?

Can I just have the form printed out and answer it in handwritten?

Also, about the Naturalization Certificate of my Fiance, can he send me a photocopy of it and have it notarized by US commissioned notary?

It was clearly said in the certificate that it's illegal to photocopy it, but since it is one of the best proof needed for CRBA for our child to show them

can this be possible? Or his old and current passports with Notary is enough to bring... Since the father of my child couldn't come on our interview day due to his work..

Help please... Thanks in advance!

1- I've tried to answer your question about photocopying here:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/511606-photocopying-naturalization-certificate/?p=7206562

2- Yes, you can fill out the form by hand.

The State Department gives you the choice to:

"Fill Out Form DS-11: Application For A U.S. Passport

Print Form DS-11 and complete by hand; or

Use our online guide to fill out and print Form DS-11."

Thank you for the links you gave me..[/quote

Just one note regarding the hand-filled application... I just thought of this... I'm not sure if the proses is the same for consular applications as for applications in the US... the consulate may have it's own filing rules about filling out the application online... sorry about that, but I don't want to give you bad advice. Please check the consulate's website.

They gave me a checklist for CRBA..it was highly noted there "you MUST complete the form electronically and print it out"..

So I tried to go fillable forms for DS 11 but it keeps on giving wrong dates when entering all the birth dates..and if I leave it blank I can proceed.. Hopeless..

Last recourse is to have the form answered in handwritten..

I am relieved with the link you gave me. Maybe I'll just tell the CO then..

By the way if ever he can't get send me a copy of his naturalization certificate, can his old passports and current passport be enough to bring as proof for his citizenship..US passports are only for US citizens, right?

Thanks so much.

Try filling out the form on a different browser. Internet Explorer sometimes works where Chrome, Firefox, or Safari might not. Try a couple.

Try filling out the form on a different computer.

Make sure that you're entering the date formats correctly. Month Day Year or Day Month Year.

Generally, the US passport is proof of US citizenship. In almost all cases that would be sufficient. However, for some applications, they want to know the date that the parent was naturalized.

So they may actually need the naturalization certificate.

This is because citizenship is not automatic for a child born abroad to one US citizen parent and one non-citizen.

The requirements are here:

http://travel.state.gov/content/travel/english/legal-considerations/us-citizenship-laws-policies/citizenship-child-born-abroad.html

So if they ask you to bring the naturalization certificate, then that's what you should submit.

But if they just say you should bring proof of citizenship, then the passport should be sufficient.

Ok I will try that, honestly I am not really good with computers :) ..Maybe I'll go later to internet shop were someone could help me then..Thanks for that advise.

I told my fiance to send me a photocopy just to make sure I had everything on hand if in case the CO will ask for it..He said he will ask their company lawyer if it's possible and to have it photocopied and be notarized..

Have you tried to download the form to your computer and filling in the form that way?

I had difficulties trying to get it fill out correctly for my daughter. It kept changing.

I had to download it several times until I found a version that worked.

The US embassy Manila use to allow hand written but they do not.

This is a new change, within the last 2 months.

I honestly can not remember what webpage I got the DS-11 from that worked correctly.

I will look on my home computer after work to see if I can find out.

I will let you know if I can find the information for you.
