Anybody heard of converting to Islam just to gets divorce in the Philippines? A girl I've been talking to for a few months now is still married. Hasn't seen her husband in years. So we talked about an annulment. Now she said someone told her (a Muslim) that if she converts to Islam she can be divorced in a quick couple of months. And she's free to convert back to her Catholic faith later on down the road. Sounds fishy to me. Anybody heard or been through this?

First, no divorce in the philippines. You can file an annulment. There is what we called "package" you just need to pay 150k and your case will take 11 months. No need for the husband to appear in court.

Maybe you should brush up on your Islamic laws before you spam your services. Muslims are in fact allowed to divorce in the Philippines. That never was my original question. The question is can a Catholic woman convert to Islam and obtain a divorce faster that way than to pay some scammer a $150k to take a million years to do his job.

Ours took almost P200k and no appearance on my part..it took us 2 years in the waiting, plus the hassles of doing all the required documents to file..so that the NSO of Cenomar will reflect into their system as "NULL and VOID".. If she is a catholic she could not resort into conversion for a Muslim just to be free..It's not as easy as that..

The Muslims have also their law to abide especially if you want to join their belief..It's not easy either because you need to show them that you trully have faith in their belief..Islam is a very respectable religion. You cant just use it to be free from present marriage. Some of my cousins took years to convert by heart understanding everything in their KORAN..

you DID answer the OP's question..annulment is the best way here in the Philippines..

It is really true that 150k to 200k or way up for an annulment fee, with or without appearance..

Both Parties receive summons in court during trials..some may take 11months or years to be annulled depending on the reasons for the case.

First, no divorce in the philippines. You can file an annulment. There is what we called "package" you just need to pay 150k and your case will take 11 months. No need for the husband to appear in court.

I think he referred to that line. There is what we called "package" you just need to pay 150k and your case will take 11 months.

Anyway divorce under Muslim law could only be done if marriage was Muslim. They cant untie something they didnt tie in the first place, that doesnt make sense. I read it online, and I think it makes sense. :P

This is forum...you can not get a specific answer you want ..this is sharing of ideas..thru experiences. If you wany specific answer hire a lawyer. Anyway you made 3 posted topics with the same question...about annulment. My suggestion is hire an attorney . You need to be sensitive if youre planning to marry a filipina.

I've tried reading up on it and it said that when a woman converts to Islam, and her husband does not, they consider the marriage invalidated since the husband is an unbeliever. But that's only invalidated in their religion.

However, since she got married as a catholic, she definitely will continue to show married on paper (meaning she will appear married on the National Statistics Office records which is a requirement). So the only way to prove that she is legally free to marry is getting annulled so it will show on her records.
