Hey all.

in a few weeks I'll be heading overseas again to see my sweetie. And I'm prepared to pop the question on her this time and invite her to relocate to the states with me. But before doing that, I want to be sure that she WILL in fact be able to enter the US. I see only one potential area that could present a problem .. her work.

She has worked .. as a camgirl. Now I know it's not the same as prostitution but I wonder if they would call into question her moral character. She's truly a sweetheart .. her mom is old school, the classic model of tradition. She is very much like her .. didn't want to get into that work but did so out of necessity. It's not that she has no ability or isn't smart .. it's just the economy of her country is so poor, most, "normal" jobs don't pay enough and it's hard to get by on your own, let alone helping her now widowed mom.

I'm curious to know if this would be an issue. If anyone has any insight about such things, I would appreciate some input. Thanks so much.

Not sure why that would even come up. Unless she was arrested in any kind of sting, there would be no record of her work as a camgirl. You will need to submit a work history for the background check. The admin here is very leery about giving advice that would suggest hiding facts. So I guess the question is IF they knew she was a camgirl, would it be cause for denial. I will let others who have experience answer that one.

Hey .. thanks for that. Yes, that is my question. She had a, "normal" job for a while, about 6 years ago but as I said .. it simply wasn't enough to even get by on. A friend told her about this and after some arm-twisting, she gave it a try and has been doing it ever since. At the moment, she doesn't officially work anywhere (a studio for example) but does this from home. So her work history would DEFINITELY show this, otherwise it would be blank for the last 4-5 years and THAT I feel would raise some serious eyebrows. Thinking if she put, living with parents or something for that time, that too would be a red flag.

I personally feel it would be a tragedy if she were denied because of this. Circumstances beyond her control caused her to make the decision to do this work and for that to now be a cause for denial into the US and for us to be together .. well, you know.

Quick addition: the reason I'm asking is because at one point, we were considering a visitor visa for her to come stay for a little. But I talked to some people from Romania who have gone through the process and I was told that there basically isn't a snowball's chance in hell of her getting a visitor visa to America, BECAUSE of her work as a camgirl. They would question her ethics and feel that's enough to deem her a risk to try to stay illegally in the country. But where this is for marriage and the intent is to become a permanent resident .. it seems like it would be a different story .. just wana know the facts before proceeding further.

Bottom line -- the most important thing is to tell the truth about everything throughout the process....hopefully, it will work out for you both. If there is any attempt to conceal information, it is more likely than not to end in failure, so honesty really is the best policy (as my mother used to say about everything) when it comes to immigration.

Absolutely! You try to hide even 1 thing and you're found it, out brings EVERYTHING into question. Don't need that. Just curious to see if others have had any experience with this and if so .. specifically what. Want to have a firm grip on this before I go back .. incidentally, I'll be on the plane at this very moment in 3 weeks. :)

Honestly .. we did meet through one of her camsites. I'm ashamed to say that but on the other hand, we never would have met otherwise .. and my life has changed so much for the better, through knowing her. "Met" on her site maybe, 3-4 times a month for a few months before I put on my own cam and we started really talking and became friends. We moved things over to skype .. had our first date (online) a couple months later. When we get together next month, it will be on the 4 year anniversary of that date. This will be my 3rd trip to see her, and the 2nd this year. We take our laptops out to places, like we're sharing a little of our world with each other .. sometimes we fall asleep on skype, lying side by side. We have really become like best friends .. though not without the problems that all couples face, of course.

We talked the last time I was there, about her coming here to visit but I have since learned that with her work on the sites, she would most likely be denied a visitor visa - questionable morals is what I was told. There's no question about her morals .. she a good, honorable woman, her mom too. It's been 4 years .. and the time is right. I'm ready .. like I said, just want to have all my ducks in a row and ready to begin the process after she says, "Yes." :) I don't want any surprises so if there's anything I need to know .. now is the time, BEFORE we start making plans. The visa, as far as I know, is the most critical piece of the immigration process. I want to do this right .. top to bottom.

Because of how you met, this will come out in multiple ways, her work history, how you met, etc. The best thing to do is be totally honest, show proof of your bona fide relationship, and let the chips fall where they may. Good luck.

My thoughts exactly .. we can't hide something like this. If we were to say we met elsewhere .. there's no documentation of it. and it just wouldn't be right anyway. I just pray they won't hold this against her/us. Being forced into that work by circumstances beyond her control is bad enough .. but to cripple our chances of a life together here in the states .. that would be tragic ..

I would recommend a top-notch attorney. I am not sure if anyone here knows if being a camgirl counts as prostitution for US immigration law. US law is very strict about prostitution and "having no choice" is not going to be a good enough answer, if it qualifies.

I would also think about moving to Romania.

Good luck.

Honestly, camming would be more closely related to stripping than prostitution.

As far as what the girl does, yes, but as far as what the man does and the point of it? No.

You might want to ask in the southeast Asian regional forums; I know there are some experts on this sort of thing there.

I understand your point .. but isn't what's in question what the girl does? After all, SHE is the one coming to MY country and immigration is deciding whether or not to let her in based on various factors including work history, etc. I'm just trying to understand the process.

What I think Harpa is saying is that the way in which what SHE (your fiancée) does for a living is perceived is affected by how both parties, both she and her male clients, behave.

To understand the process, you need to find someone more knowledgeable about how USCIS views this sort of profession, which is why you need to speak to an attorney or find someone who has gone through the same situation. But if one thing has become clear from the replies to this thread, it should be NOT to lie about or even conveniently omit parts of the story.
