Hello. My name is Aakash Mehta. I have filed I-130 immigration for my alien spouse and I have a question regarding it. Let me inform you that this question may be a very dumb question for many of you.

So, after battling with 4 different check lists from NVC, NVC finally emailed me that our case has been forwarded for an interview schedule. We should have the interview date soon. Meanwhile, I am looking to find answers to the following questions.

(1) I filed I-130 for my wife from New York but then I moved to Georgia for my job. I still have not got GA residency or driver's license but I live in GA now. So, when my wife comes to USA for the first time after getting immigration visa, does she have to land in NY for her immigration, where I originally filed for her or she can land in Atlanta, GA and have her immigration there?

(2) What happens during the immigration processing at the USA airport? Will she receive a greencard (permanent or temporary) at the USA airport or shall we apply for one once she has been immigrated to USA?

(3) What about SSN? Can we apply for her SSN in GA and not NY?

I know some or all of these questions may be very stupid and dumb. But I need to make sure these things. Kindly help. If you can submit the link to read about these queries then that would be fine too.

Thank you. I appreciate your time and kind assistance.

1) she can enter in US from any airport.

2) She wont receive any Green card at Airport. They will take sealed envelope from your wife and Fingerprint.

Did you pay 165$ Greencard fess. you have to pay that before she entred in the US.

You wont get Gc until you don't pay the Fees.

Your wife must got letter when she had interview for Instructions about paying GC fees.

3) You can Apply for SSN from GA.

No she does not have to land in NY. She can land anywhere she wants. Just make sure your address is up to date this address is vital to get the green card to the correct address.

(2) What happens during the immigration processing at the USA airport? Will she receive a greencard (permanent or temporary) at the USA airport or shall we apply for one once she has been immigrated to USA?

She will get a stamp in her passport that will be her temporary green card until the the card arrives in mail. Nothing is given to her. She will go through processing hand over papers passport maybe asked questions. Read about POE at varies airports

(3) What about SSN? Can we apply for her SSN in GA and not NY?

Most apply for a SSN after about a week or two if it hasn't arrived. Stop thinking NY you can go to any SSN office in the US and apply. Give it about a week to get her in the system.

I know some or all of these questions may be very stupid and dumb. But I need to make sure these things. Kindly help. If you can submit the link to read about these queries then that would be fine too.

Not stupid questions at all. Now that you have case complete you will wait for interview you are still at NVC. Your casefile doesn't get sent out until you get interview. India should still be scheduling so keep an eye on your email.

Thank you. I appreciate your time and kind assistance.

Hi there,

My name is Khushi Soni.

I do not have link however, they will send you a letter with interview & medical exam date & time. With this letter they will provide you all the information about what to bring (as original) & what to bring (as a copy).

Make sure she has her ORIGINAL marriage certificate along with at least 2 copy since they might need it to put in your file.

She need all her identity proof such as PAN card, Driver license, & Passport (for sure with your name added on it) & a copy of passport.

Definitely her medical check up envelope (UNOPENED).

Proof of Bona fide marriage such as record of your phone conversation, Face book massages, or Skype massages or any joint property that proves that this is long term relationship such as house paper or bank statement.

I will let you know more if I found out that there is anything else they ask for it during interview but so far this is the list & do not worry they will send you one list as well.

Btw I also have some question if you could help me out.

I have also applied for my husband at the end of May 2014 & I received NOA letter from USCIS on 7th June.

Would you please help me to figure it out how long it will take & what extra procedure u had to go with?
