Use N/A or none.

Where it asks for the mailing address if different from physical address just save yourself a checklist and rewrite your address.

So, for every part that doesn't apply (which is a lot for me), we are to write N/A or none? For example all of Part 3 about the intending immigrant's family (of which there is none)?

I don't see how that makes much sense.

I have been here for quite some time and see people without N/A or none get checklists on the regular I-864. So to cover your bases, I highly suggest people do so. If they don't, and get a checklist, well, it's their visa application not mine so that's their choice.

BTW your AOS is not approved or denied until interview. Just "accepted" or checklisted.

No.

For Part 3: question 2. you'd not check off the box. So then the rest is automatically N/A. No need to write anything in the boxes, but if you want write N/A in the first box and leave the rest.

In Part 4: Questions 2 and 3 - completely fill out BOTH the mailing and the physical address (all of question 2 and all of question 3) even if they are the same. Because THIS is where I see people checking checklists. They are separate questions and need to be answered as such.

I'm sorry, next time I'll be clearer about which section requires n/a or none and which for the most part, does not require it but can be added if you choose.

In the end it doesn't hurt to add n/a or none, but it can hurt NOT to. YOUR choice as this is YOUR life, no one else's. But do not blame anyone else if you get a checklist. Not the NVC. Not VJ. Not me. etc... It's up to YOU to do this correctly. Make sure all your numbers are exactly correct, etc, because this is YOUR life, no one else's.

Thanks for the correction, though am not trying to mislead anyone, I only shared my own experience with my AOS. Have seen people get checklist for not writing N/A and NVC said to someone on the phone to write N/A on where does not apply. But few weeks ago someone posted on NVC filer-july 2014 that his friend got checklisted for writing N/A. I think NVC should update their own instructions, they are getting people confused.

Thanks for helping with the clarification. Like you said - I guess the more N/A the better! I had the address information set because mine is different (and I did understand it anyway as two separate questions).

As you can imagine, I think there are many people concerned that one little mistake could cause quite a delay. It's better for people to be here checking things out five times as that's how we catch mistakes.

I sometimes get frustrated at the lack of detail in a lot of the posts - it's hard to give someone advice with some simple questions. But thanks for giving detailed advice. VJ has certainly helped a lot of us on this journey, due to its members like you. Thanks.

Answer all questions fully and accurately. If an item is not applicable or the answer is “none,” leave the space blank.

The NVC don't always follow their own rules.

You can search out all the posts on here about people getting checklists for not putting n/a or none. I cannot count how many there are.

Since reviewing documents is now taking 60 days, your choice.

A recent post has been split from this ancient thread (now locked) into its own thread in this forum.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
