If I am the sponsor ( also a USA citizen) of a person on a F1 Visa , and he is going to school as he supposed to, if I later marry him while he is here studying ; will it look suspicious to immigration when he applies for his Adjustment of Status to become a permanent resident of the USA that I was also his sponsor for his F1 Visa? Do they even know that information? This is for a valid , loving marriage as we have plenty of evidence of our relationship, even before he came here. Thanks

If is a mystery word. You and your student clearly got the intention, don't you?

As of now, it's not our intention to marry. He will be studying for several months before we consider marriage. I just wanted to know if there would be any problems with his adjustment to status as I was the sponsor for his F1 Visa. Thank You

I did the same thing.. I had no problems. Having said that, there was no way we could've had any prior intent as we were a same sex couple, so marriage wasn't an option for immigration until after he had been here for 2 years.

Its really up to the person doing the interview. You have to show some proof that you weren't intending on doing this. Make sure they have strong ties back home and that they didn't break all ties to come here for school. I think that'll be a big thing. If they packed everything up to come here and have nothing in their home country to go back to, that'll be a big flag.

Great to hear your experience! He is Colombian and of the same sex as I and is currently studying design in Buenos Aires and has traveled to Uruguay also (both legally) . He wants to come here to study English next February. We met last February and I wanted to help him as a sponsor. He is a single 25 year old man with family and friends in Colombia. If, after 6 mos , I decide to marry him, so he can remain here as a permanent resident, would this suspicious? Right now, it is not our intent; as he doesn't even know I'm inquiring about this. Or would it be an option for him to return to Colombia after his studies, and I file a for a Fiance Visa? What do you guys think?Thank You so much
