Hi, my wife got her ssn in October 2013. We hadn't tried to use it until a couple of days ago when we tried to open a stock account in her name. They were unable to verify her ssn and declined to open the account. We used an online ssn checker and it also said that that number has never been issued. So we went up to the Social Security office and they said they can't help us and said it probably had something to do with her address (which I don't see why that would be because we put the correct address and haven't moved). I'm not really sure what to do next. She will start applying for jobs soon and this will be a big problem if we don't get it resolved. Advice please!

Thanks

The SSA would be the ones that can help you, so not sure why your local office told you they cannot. Try going to the SSA website and contacting them via phone or email to let them know your situation and ask what can be done to rectify it. Let them know about your visit to your local SSA office, and that you received no help.
