Tuberculin Skin Test

I have been tested many times, my Mother had TB way back and I remember we had at least one scare at work.

Never by skin test, all the ones I have encountered were X rays.

I did not know there was a skin test until I came to the US, does not work if you have been inoculated. Will obviously show positive.

Hello everyone! So I just got my medical examination for AOS last monday and tuberculin skin test is included. The induration of the skin test site as of now is like almost an inch. Should I be worried? I know that I am 100% healthy and never had TB before. I would really appreciate your comments. I will go back to the doctor tomorrow for the TST reading, I am hoping that this is just a false positive result since I had a BCG vaccine from the country where I was born. Thank you in advance for your comments and have a nice day!

My wife ALWAYS has allergic reaction to TB skin test, and she is TB negative

Hello, was the Quantiferon Gold blood test painful? And when they found out that your TST was positive, did they ask you to do the x.ray? I really appreciate your comment. :-) Thank you.

The Quantiferon Gold test just involves them drawing a bit of blood. Not painful at all, it just depends on whether or not you have a problem with needles ;)

If you had BCG, skin test will be positive, but Quantiferon will be negative. It's far more accurate/reliable than the skin test.

I did the same thing because I didn't remember if I had BCG or not. I used the Quantiferon test results for the medical (just showed them to the civil surgeon and they wrote it on the form).
