Hi everyone,

I've sent in my AOS documents, gotten my first NOA and would like to apply for a Washington state ID. To apply I need to present "Foreign passport — Valid and stamped U.S. Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) entry form I-94/I94W or Temporary I-551 ADIT stamp." However, the stamp in my passport has expired. Is this going to be a problem? I also don't have a SSN yet, but I do have a number of documents that I can use as proof of residency (bank and credit card statement, apartment lease). Or am I going to have to wait until my EAD arrives? Thanks a bunch in advance :)

You will probably have to wait for your EAD, unless Washington State accepts the NOA for your I-485 as proof of legal status, which most states don't.

Called WA and they told me you can get an ID with no problem, even if you dont have a social. Only thing is it takes longer as they have to verify you are a resident of WA.

Going to the office this afternoon to start the process. I dont want to wait for my EAD to get an ID.

Actually Washington State is one of the few States that don't require at least the EAD/GC to get an ID.

Well yeah I have the required documents, it's just the fact that my entry stamp is expired (July 16).

And did you manage to apply for one succesfully? Do they require NOA hard copy? I also want to get a US ID asap, I don't like carrying around my passport because I'm always afraid I'll lose it.

I havent tried yet. Couldn't go in today. Thinking about going in tomorrow. The woman on the phone explained to me the process, and no they dont ask for any NOA or anything. I asked about the ID though, not the driver's license. all she said is to go to a DMV to apply, they will then send you a form in the mail, you have to complete it and send it back to them, then they will give u a call for you to go in and verify your identity and whether you are truly a WA resident. Seems like a lot of work, but if you need an ID, I think its best to start doing it ASAP. I need one too as I dont want to keep carrying my passport around. Will write more about it tomorrow if I go to the DMV.
